You are fat!

My son pointed at my belly and told me that I am fat. I just laughed and said, it's normal for a mom to have excess belly fat. Then he went on and said, "Have you seen those girls at the criterium race and how skinny they were?" Told him that those girls were young and said, "Have you seen all the mothers at the criterium race and how big they were?" He replied, "Well, you don't dress like a mother!" Now I don't know if I should be flattered being compared to the young girls instead of the moms my age, or get mad at him for insisting that I am fat!

The worst thing any man can say to a woman is that she’s fat or looks fat. It’s an unwritten rule that you just don’t talk about that. Ever. Your son is still young, and still learning though, so don’t be too hard on him.

Oh no no no! And being called fat is something that would never ever offend me. It took ages for me to gain weight and I'd rather be called fat than skinny coz I've been extremely skinny my entire life.

@toniganzon Well, in your case that makes a lot of sense.

@moffittjc Sure does. I had been a size 0 until Craig was 2 years old. Even when I was pregnant I was just 45kg. Now I'm 55kg at 5 foot 4. I've been trying to maintain that weight for years. Sometimes it would drop to 50kg or 52. I promised myself I'd never go below 50kg coz then it would be too difficult to gain my weight back again.

I would be flattered, he did not even think to compare you with the moms.

@LadyDuck I think we all stop at one particular age in our life. I still see myself in my 30s.

yes that's the good thing about it. It never entered his mind that I those girls he was comparing me too could already be my daughters.

@toniganzon I noticed that my husband usually compares me with women in their early 40s... he cannot set his mind on the fact that I am 71. I cannot either.

I actually don't have a fat belly. It's flat. And I'm still a size small in all my clothes. Sometimes XS. Never medium. My pants is between size 23-25.

How old is he? Kids usually pretty much see things as black and white, I have never considered if the clothes I wear are young or old I just wear what I like and what is comfortable for me,

@toniganzon Then he should not compare his mom to young girls and if his mom dresses younger he should like that she is up to date,

@RasmaSandra Oh he likes the fact that I don't dress old. In fact we share shirts. And when he was younger, I pointed at one mom who dressed really quite old and shabby and asked him if it was ok with him that I'd look like that in the future. He said no. he's happy with the way I look. I never take offense every time he tells me I'm fat because we both know I am not.

Hahaha...sometimes our children like to tease their mother. Because the nature of children like to be critical. But in my opinion, the children are still innocent. So they like to tell the truth.

he's no child anymore. He's 18 and he's telling the truth. But I am never offended by such. I know my body well and I am not even close to being fat.

@sinari flirting?! That's an awful thing to say. And I know he wasn't really serious. It was a joke.

@toniganzon Yes, then your child is joking, and teasing you. If your body is far from fat, or if your body is currently slim, then I think your son is flirting with you.

I don't really care much about that. I struggled for years to gain weight. And I am happy with my ideal weight now.

I don't like the word skinny. The only time I was finally able to reach my ideal weight was when Craig was already 2 years old. I had been really skinny and I hated it back then every time people pointed out how skinny I was. So when I finally gained weight and saw my friends, they were all shocked and hardly recognized me and all they could say was I was fat and I took it as a compliment. But they really didn't mean fat fat. But they were just so used seeing me too skinny.
