If you want something done right, do it yourself.

This is one of those "platitudes" I've heard over the years. It can be interpreted in many ways, kind of like the expression, Why do I find what I was looking for in the last place I look? Anyway, I forgot my camera on the last hike I took with Rob, the talker. When I saw something I wanted to capture, I asked him if he'd take the photo for me. "I like the way the flowers on the shore frame San Francisco in the distance. I also remember the snoopy statue--probably a different one--from my childhood days. Please please please place Snoopy to the right, so he doesn't get confused for a flower." The attached photo is what emerged. I shouldn't be such an ingrate. At least he was willing to take the photo for me. I do not have fancy photographic equipment, but I'm good at composing. I especially like my kid photos, as I try to capture them "doing what they do." Anyway, do you agree with the expression I used in my title? How do you "interpret" it?

Framing/composing is everything. It’s not totally true that “if you want something done right, do it yourself.” I can’t give myself a haircut.

Heh. I just use horse clippers (or other clippers) and cut my own hair.

@crossbones27 Guys without much hair are blessed that the "baldy" look is fashionable now. Just keep a sucker in your mouth. What was his name...Kojac?

Generally speaking, I agree with the expression. However, it's best not to take that approach at work, because if you do it yourself and do it right and do a good job, your boss will "reward" you by giving you even more work to do!

@TheHorse Me too. And yet I still haven’t learned my lesson. Stupid work ethic!

@moffittjc Sigh. And there's also the jealousy factor. Being too good at what I do can make others resentful or jealous.

Last tIme I said that I wrote a very post on it. It was with Brooklyn my dog and family more or less gave it to us. The Mom and Dad thought be neat if could could come work for us. My sister was like well you gave us this awesome dog in first place we should be paying you. She told my sister wait to you see them work. True enough big rains that year and they were having issues. Three days they could clean up weeds. I went out to make them look good pulled them by hand and quite literally, some with a rake had most of the yard done in 20 minutes. lLittle blastards got like 60 bucks a piece 120 bucks for probably a hour of work, and I had to do heavy lifting but look what we got. The neatest is one comes by to see how she is doing. Not a good worker in far as a laborer but sure is good person.

Im not really a perfectionist but there are certain ways that i want things done. I just hate it when some things are done just for the sake of being done.

The expression is accurate at times and a very bad idea at other times. If I'm doing my taxes, I know I can do them better than anyone I know, but when I needed my hip replaced, I'm glad I didn't try to do it myself.

That is pretty much how it goes with my writing, I do not follow anyone style and have my own and when I write poetry I do it freestyle so I am my own individual marching to my own music and leading my own parade, It is the only way to go.

For most things, I would agree. That's a nice photo. As FourWalls said, I can't cut my own hair. Wish I could because I look like Monica at the moment. Remember her from Friends in the episode in the Caribbean?
