I Have Adopted Two Soldiers

Have you ever heard of Soldier's Angels? I have recently adopted a second soldier from this organization. It's a US organization that allows you to adopt deployed soldiers and you have to send them a card/letter twice a month, and a package (doesn't matter how large or small) once a month. I guess getting mail is really important to them and they can sign up voluntarily to be "adopted" by someone so they can get mail for encouragement. I did this many years ago, and recently decided to start again. I adopted one soldier in February. Then I got an email the other day saying there were 450 soldiers that were waiting to be adopted. That touched my heart so I went and signed up for a short-term soldier that only needs mail for a few months. When you sign up to adopt a soldier, they give you an end date so you know when to stop sending mail to them. Anyone in the US can do this so if you're interested, you can go to the Soldier's Angels website and volunteer to write to a soldier. Have you ever written to a soldier before?

@Ladanger Sure, and I forgt to mention it is a 501C program so it is legit. They have other programs too, including one where if you don't want to make the commitment to send cards and packages monthly, you can just sign up to send 1 card or letter to a different soldier, who is on the waiting list to be adopted. But you have to request once every 3 months minimum. That's not too bad. Oh, and you may not ever hear from your soldier...just a word of warning. I have done this a few times and have only heard back from about half the soldiers I adopted. But it is still appreciated and needed.

Ys, I heard of Soldier's Angels. We have something similar for orphan kids in different countries around the world. We pay a little amount every month to send them to school and we can send gifts and cards.

That's a good idea. It can be quite daunting in the middle of nowhere and reminders of home are welcome

That sounds so noble..I wish that we had something like that here. There might be something but I am not aware of. Well, I come from a family where many have served in Defence forces. So, I actually interact with them in my day to day life.

@arunima25 If you know of any well enough to send mail to, I hear getting mail when you are serving in the defense of a country really lifts the morale of those who serve.

@Kouponkaren Oh! Yes, it definitely does. It's the appreciation and gratitude showed for their noble service. And it will definitely motivate them.

That's a very noble thing to do since they need encouraging and uplifting words to make their days seem brighter.
