Hunchback Needs Advice

I had a dentist appointment this morning, but when I got in the car my battery was dead. I called my dad, and he came to jump start my car. I headed to the dentist, and miraculously got there on time. Thankfully, I had no cavities! However, when I got ready to stand up, I couldn't. I walked to the front desk bent over. I grabbed the wall, and slowly stood upright. How long should I go before having the big, major back surgery? I've had surgery, but now we're talking the rod in the back. They said go as long as you can stand the pain because it's never just one surgery when it comes to your back. What would you do?

Oh no, I am so sorry. So these back surgeries that some people claim helped them, they had more than one surgery? I know my niece had multiple surgeries, and that is why my husband won't have one.

I don't blame your husband. I was told by people who have had this particular surgery that they have had to have other surgeries, approximately every 4 to 6 years.

@Carmelanirel2 They do well for a couple of years, and then the pain comes back by normal wear and tear I guess.

@AmbiePam Wow, and are they still in pain or at least less pain afterwards?

I don’t know what I would do. I believe I would wait as long as possible for surgery.

Consider getting and using a wheelchair first, if walking is going to be difficult and you can't take it anymore. Consult your doctor and have your back checked out. Make sure you're not pushing yourself so hard that you no longer qualify for the surgery.

I would not know what to do but I wish not to have back surgery. I agree to what others say, get a second opinion.

I have always hoped I'd never need a back operation. Maybe you need another opinion at this stage.

You're probably right. I see a pain management doctor once a month, but it's been ten years since I saw the surgeon.

With how bad it is effecting your day to day, I would do it sooner rather than later. Especially if the medicine or whatever they are doing for you to ease pain isn't working or helping anymore.

I would probably get a second and third opinion when it comes to your back. You can never be too careful.

They said that regarding knee replacement surgery to but I think I waited a few years to long. I don't know anything about back surgery though.

If you're sure you need surgery, I would wait until the last possible moment. I have trouble walking and standing due to spinal problems -- one doctor said I needed back surgery ASAP...one said, "Aw, you're OK." What would you do?

Oh goodness I'm so sorry to hear that about your back. How much is it impinging on your life? That's what I would use as a measure.
