A Punch in the Nose

Just before we dismissed for lunch today, an incident happened in my classroom that shocked me. The least likely little girl turned and punched her friend, another little girl, right in the nose. Why you might ask, did the one girl punch the other in the nose? The punchee, you see, referred to the puncher as small. The puncher is small. She's the smallest student in my class. She's barely the size of an average second-grader. However, she doesn't like being reminded that she's small. The punchee is herself, rather petite. And, according to the testimony I was given from both parties, made the reference with no ill intent or as a way to belittle her friend. The puncher apologized to the punchee and was promptly forgiven. By day's end, they were back on friendly terms. 14 student days and counting until this school year ends. 194 student days in all. I can make it that long.

Hey, a fellow school employee, are you a teacher or an aid? I'm an aid in a special needs room and have had a student hurt others, but mostly they go after the staff. Like in March 2021 my student actually punched the top of my head, causing a mild concussion.

@DWDavis Watching what the teacher in my room puts up with, I have a lot of respect for teachers. I used to want to be a teacher, I love teaching, but I don't want to deal with the drama, with the students, parents, and admins...

I am a teacher. After a career as a CPA, I spent 15 years in public middle school, and the last 5 years teaching 4th grade at a Catholic School.

@Carmelanirel2 I left public school because of all the politics and red tape. Sadly, some of that is working its way into the Catholic school I teach at now since a new superintendent took over last year.

A student over east assaulted another girl but they were in their teens. There is awful video footage of one girl punching the other then kicking her while she is down. It's sickening. Really sad when this happens.

When I was in public school, fights were a regular occurrence. This incident wasn't a fight, just one punch. The young lady who threw the punch came to school today truly contrite and embarrassed about losing her temper.

Watching them today, you'd never have guessed anything happened yesterday.

At least things got taken care of. I was shy growing up and hated that people knew. I never punched anyone for it though. When I was in high school a teacher told some girls to move their chairs near me since I didn't talk in class. After that I began taking a bit more.

My granddaughter is very petite and she’s teased at school. Evidently you keep your eyes on your students and don’t allow it. You’re a good teacher.

I am sure you can. I bet things aren't always as bad as they seem.
