What Does a ''Pollen Count'' Tell You?

'Microsoft Start' put a "pollen alert" in my desktop-toolbar, which sent me to MSN Weather (Oklahoma City, 5/19/2022) https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/pollen/in-Oklahoma-City,OK?loc=eyJsIjoiT2tsYWhvbWEgQ2l0eSIsInIiOiJPSyIsImMiOiJVbml0ZWQgU3RhdGVzIiwiaSI6IlVTIiwiZyI6ImVuLXVzIiwieCI6LTk3LjY0NCwieSI6MzUuNTgxfQ%3D%3D&weadegreetype=F&ocid=winp1taskbar&cvid=7d38e99adf9743bd95e2750edf5a1e9c&fbclid=IwAR0QWhZ07R-VI6OLlcacbSLe7P4urEtqTORMG4Sb1MKxcXQrU1gMpt0b-J4

Microsoft Bing reports, "WebMD explains that the pollen count is determined by a formula that measures the number of pollen grains per cubic meter of air. The result fluctuates due to location and weather conditions, but no matter what, the higher the number, the worse you feel. How is pollen count measured? The National Allergy Bureau (NAB) actually has volunteer counters that must be certified through the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI)." Then they send me to a page that says, "A pollen count is the measurement of the number of grains of pollen in a cubic meter of air." https://www.vodogram.com/what-is-the-pollen-count/ But how? Do they have a 'scanner' that analyzes the pollen-content of air-samples? Or do they just get paid to be allergic & -to count the number of sneezes that day? The page says, "The count is taken by a spinning rod that moves through the air at certain intervals. The pollen grains that stick to the rod are specially stained and examined through the microscope."

I am neither a scientist nor a meteorologist, so I don't know how they do it. But as someone with countless allergies, I am glad the technology exists. Knowing the pollen count helps me plan what I can and cannot do outdoors on any given day.

I wonder why the meteorologists on THE NATIONAL DESK don't inform regions of high pollen-counts (or DO they?... they didn't when I searched there today (May 19, 2022) ... )
The National Desk brings breaking news, investigative reports, and political coverage that no other national news organization is bold enough to attack. Watch daily interviews with relevant news makers, and the people responsible for making national polici

@mythociate That is a good question. I suppose Sinclair Broadcast Group may leave that up to the affiliates of their local news programs.
