One participant in C.O.W. Day made lunch

The school paid for the lunch. We all had smoked ribs, and baked beans. There were potato chips and other chips. Potato salad and desserts were also on the menu. It is funny how food builds morale, and brings people together. This is the first year we have had this type of presentation, but our counselor hopes to make it a yearly event. There are many careers that can be made to fit this venue. The counselor said she had at least forty ldeas and had to trim it down a little. Other years we have had end of year assemblies that were not so practical or all inclusive in my opinion. This was great because it was outside, and provided for air flow, and no one had to really sit still. Some of the kids were related to some of the presenters, or had them as neighbors so they were really invested in the presentations. The game warden was the best, though. He loves his job and says that although he is serious and is a law enforcement officer, he gets to set his own schedule, go out and explore back roads and nature, and take advantage of our local lakes and reservoirs as he patrols them. He had lots of schooling, a four year degree in conservation or something related and then he had to go to the law enforcement academy to learn the policing part of his job. Back to the lunch. . . that participant said he started out smoking meats as a hobby and then joined in partnership with the local mom and pop grocery as the demand increased. It was another way for the kids to learn how to develop their interests.

Oh, that was staff lunch only. The food service is going to have a barbecue on Monday for kids and staff.

@GardenGerty That was great, at least you could relax without having to take care of the kids.

@GardenGerty It makes such a difference if guides are enthusiastic about their subject.

It is good for children to grow up knowing what kinds of jobs are available. Lunch was very good.

Food does build morale and bring people together, but free food does it better! I’ll bet there are parts of the country where being a game warden is extremely dangerous…if you accidentally find someone’s moonshine still or pot crop….

They got to climb in and out of vehicles and see things up close that usually they do not. I believe they all would say they liked it better than doing math and reading.
