The recent economic downturn coupled with growing uncertainty has been increasingly taking its toll. A high level of tension or undue pressure at work can be most stressful causing dire health problems. Excessive stress and hypertension are the number one cause of many major diseases. Any change in the situation which causes anxiety or other negative reaction can cause stress. In such a scenario, it is vital to stay calm without feeling overwhelmed by the enormity of the tasks ahead. When work gets stressful it would be best to act decisively and tackle one task at a time. You can stay calm and cool when you have the feeling of being in control of your work and not find it too overpowering to handle. Here are two effective ways for staying calm by not allowing your work to get stressful: ~ Cultivate calmness It is not just your work but rather, your personal attitude that can make you feel stressed. To reduce tension, anxiety, or fatigue, make a deliberate effort to cultivate a state of easy, calm approach to work. Believe that you have the capability of attaining success without undue pressure on yourself. Think back on all your qualifications and past accomplishments. Practicing this method, could help you to take things in your stride and cultivate calmness. Repeatedly follow this strategy whenever you feel engulfed by the pressure of work. ~ Determine to enjoy your work It’s important to enjoy what you’re doing and not go out of your way to make success your end goal. Be genuinely interested in your work- - -whatever profession you may be in. Work hard, make the best possible effort to give it your best shot. However, at the same time, determine to enjoy your work in itself. When work gets too stressful, try just a few minutes of meditation or prayer. That can be an instant pick-up for your entire being. Seeking solace from your Creator can empower you with a natural state of inner calm and peace.

It’s always best if you enjoy what you’re doing but people must work to make a living. In that case try to relax when you’re away from your job.

@RubyHawk Thank you for your comment. You have given us two aspects of the same coin. But don't you think dear, that some people do enjoy their work and find it relaxing?

@RubyHawk Hi! I beg to differ a bit. An average person can also discover ways to make their work of their own choosing, interesting?

@Gabugs Oh Yes, Some people have jobs they love but not the average person. The average person works because he must earn a living.

@JudyEv You are so right Judy. Thank you for your keen observation. I live with my son's family. So I often get caught up in playing the role of a concerned matriarch.

I retreat to my sewing room when life gets stressful. It’s my happy place. Going for long walks is also restorative and helps me work through problems.
