Child discipline plays a critical role in the development of the *whole* child. There are multiple benefits of child discipline. However, for discipline to be truly effective, parents need to establish consistency in their parenting strategy and create a loving, joyous and trusting relationship with their child. The foundation of effective discipline lies in creating a sense of security for one’s child. A child, who feels secure in his environment and relationships, is ready to take on responsibility and be better equipped to demonstrate good behavior. In a positive home environment where there is an abundance of tender loving care, mutual respect and a set of clear codes of conduct followed, a child has greater chances of reaping the rich lasting rewards of effective discipline.

I fully agree, parents must be a guide and an example, not "friends". Children need to grow up in a loving family, but they must learn to respect rules since a very young age.

@Gabugs Kids without a good guide since young age grow up to be shy and insecure adults.

You are absolutely right @LadyDuck The earlier the parts start to discipline their child, the easier it will be for them and their child to reap a rich harvest.

Well, this is supposed to be old school methodology. However, tough love always pays. " Spare the rod, and spoil the child." @Milo8855

This is good advice. Too many people want to be 'best friends' with their child but that should come later. While they are growing up, they need clear guidelines on how to behave.

The environment a child grows up is very important because the society has its role to play in the life of every child.

@pureme Great, more than the parents, it is the environment the child is raised, that does matter in the long run. " It takes a village to raise a child."----Hillary Clinton

I wish people were obligated to read about raising a kid and child psychology and stuff before having a baby.

@Babino Wishful thinking! Parents-to-be, if genuinely interested, will certainly read parenting books. However, those who are keen on playing a positive role in parenting, will NOT.
