Obama gets absolutely dragged on Twitter for response to Texas school shooting

My political sparring partner @porwest likes to say that I only call out the crap that Republicans do and never the Democrats. Well that isn't true. Here is a discussion illustrating that. Yesterday was 1 day after the most recent school shooting and also the 2 year anniversary of George Floyd being killed by a police officer pressing his knee on Floyd's neck for 9+ minutes. He posted the following message on Twitter: "As we grieve the children of Uvalde today, we should take time to recognize that two years have passed since the murder of George Floyd under the knee of a police officer. His killing stays with us all to this day, especially those who loved him." I'm a big fan of Obama and I had to give that tweet the stink eye. Why combine the 2 topics in one tweet? The innocent children and teachers who were murdered deserved to be highlighted, memorialized, and respected all on their own. I'm not saying that George Floyd didn't also deserve a mention but it should have been in an entirely separate tweet several hours later. I was very surprised to see such a misstep by Obama. He is almost always very savvy about saying and doing the right things. That tweet thread was just tone-deaf and everyone piled on for it. I was kind of glad to see that I wasn't the only one who thought it was wrong. In the long term I don't think it is going to do any harm to his legacy or popularity. A lot of us were left thinking "WTF" though.

It was an honest mistake to make. I'm sure he won't do it again.

That's their freedom of expression in a democratic country. That right is usually abused.
