When Using The Internet, Are Vertical Tabs 'Easier' than Horizontal Tabs?

Microsoft Rewards sent me to a page of 'tips on using the web-browser Microsoft Edge,' to an entry that says vertical tabs ARE easier to use! https://microsoftedgetips.microsoft.com/en-us/collections/productivity/i310?form=ML21MJ
It says "Browse efficiently with vertical tabs! - Vertical tabs allow you to move your tabs to the side, where vertically aligned icons and longer site titles make it easier to quickly scan, identify and switch to the right tab.
"Vertical tabs also make it easier to organize many tabs with more space to quickly multiselect, close and reorder. When you want to focus and see more of the web while using vertical tabs, you can always collapse the pane and simply hover over it to expand when you want to interact with your tabs again...."
Well, I'm convinced! And I wonder ... Why did browsers come with 'horizontal tabs' standard? I suppose it's because webpages (at least in the public sphere) were regarded as 'art-displays' rather than 'information-files'; but--using The Web to communicate information more than 'to see the sights ( 'sites')'--it's better for the tabs to be more like 'roll-call sheets' than 'little tabs.'
What do you think?

I think you are neglecting to mention that using vertical tabs uses up quite a bit of space used to normally display the web pages. I prefer having the full screen devoted to the page.

'When you want to focus and see more of the web while using vertical tabs, you can always collapse the pane...'
That's something I don't think you can do with the horizontal tab-bar (though--looking at it in 'vertical tabs'-mode now--the horizontal tab-bar is STILL there, just with 'only one title' in the space).
