Childhood Memories - #8 - My Crush

Several of you were interested in what happened with my junior high crush. As I mentioned, he did not speak to me when we started high school. This always was bothersome to me. Today, if this same thing would happen, I would just ask him, "Hey! What's going on?" But back then I was too shy to ask. He had been missing from the high school alumnae group for decades. All of a sudden he registered with the site; and I now could contact him. My husband said "Don't do it"; but I needed closure. I asked my "crush" why he didn't speak to me in high school. He said he was painfully shy and that if I would have spoken to him, he would have asked me out and that he regretted every day not talking to me. He was my first date ever in junior high; and he confessed that I was his first date too. He also said that since he was so shy he did not date again until college!!! So it's possible if I would have spoken to him, we would have dated and maybe even gone to prom together. Life is funny sometimes. So that's the story. He recently had a birthday; and I wished him "Happy Birthday" but did not get a response. So I guess the story is over! If you want to see my past posts on this subject, search "Childhood Memories". My first love and high school boyfriend got in touch with me online and we were Facebook friends, I was glad he had found the love of his life and had a family, I was not happy both he and his wife had MS but they live well. Then he got cancer and he is now with the angels. What is interesting is that both he and my soul mate were born in July and both are now gone.

I still remember the first girl I danced with in junior high. We were in seventh grade and her name was Toni, she had sandy blond hair, blue eyes, and was a couple of inches shorter than I was at the time. We were classmates and had agreed to meet at the dance. It was a special night and for the next few weeks, we were more than classmates and friends but less than boyfriend and girlfriend because we were both in unfamiliar territory. Then came the news that her dad had been offered a job 1/2 way across the country and they moved a few weeks later. So much for my first big crush.

What a sweet story. It's amazing what we can remember about those early days. I'm sorry she moved!

There are so many occasions in my life where I often wonder what if when it comes to old relationships. How would my life be different, would I have been divorced, would my financial direction had been different. I even think about my choice to not stay in the navy. It is clear my life would be entirely different now since I probably would have married someone other than my wife. I can't imagine another life of course, but I still wonder.

@porwest And if I hadn't asked my husband out the first time....Yes, I did. I left him a note with his MOTHER who I'm sure read it. I was really brazen because I really liked him; and he was 25; and I was 18! I was friends with his sister.

@LindaOHio Ouch. Yeah. That could have gone very differently for you for sure. Funny how life mostly works out in the end. Well, of course from our viewpoint.

You are right. Life is funny. It's good that you could talk to him after all these years. At least it is clear that he didn't ignore you on purpose. Well, life could have been different if any of you could take a bold step then

@LindaOHio You never know. It might have been better or maybe other way around. We never know. But it's for sure that life doesn't go the way we want unless it's destined to.

When I was in my junior high, I met a transferee young woman. I was carried by hair long black shiny hair. In short, we became fast friend and lastly for several weeks and we were no longer friends but lovers. Now she's my wife. We live together as husband and wife for 50 years now for we were married in 1972.

It's a bit of a shame in a way but now you have both made other lives. I'm back in touch with a former boyfriend too. He shares his drone videos with me and I respond but that's the limit of our interaction now.

I think we probably wouldn't have lasted anyway. He had children; and I didn't want any. That would have been a deal breaker.
