Going to Wash The Rides Today

Time to get to the self-wash and blow some quarters and give both my truck and my wife's car a good soaking. I always like using the self wash because it is economical and I can "do what I want," and most of the time they just seem to work better than the automatic washes. Plus I get to "buy" the quarters from my coin jar. It's an easy way for me to turn the quarters back into cash which in turn gets "reversed in" to my bank account where it then goes into investments.

If you are doing it yourself can't you just wash the cars in your driveway with your garden hose and whatever other stuff you need? I see people wash their cars in the driveway often.

@porwest What do you do in the self-wash that's different from what you would do in your driveway? I've never washed a car so have no idea.

@lovebuglena In the driveway you have to yank out the hose, fill a bucket with soapy water, hand wash the car with a rag or sponge, rinse, then likely wax. I can do all of this in about 10 minutes in the self wash with a high pressure sprayer that has settings for soapy soak, rinse, clear coat and spot free rinse.

I could. But honestly it is much more work and much more time consuming.

A Rolls Royce? Somehow that doesn't fit your persona. Our cars could use a good detailing. Maybe that's something for our housekeeper to do. Have a good week.

@LindaOHio Do I have to have my driver Jonathan take a picture of it in my driveway?

Yeah. I use it on the weekends. Just for grocery shopping. It has a nice sized trunk.

I would have had a better "shine" had the machines not robbed me and delivered my towels. Two machines, 75 cents each, and no towels. Argh.

I finally bought a home foaming gadget and soap brush attachment for my hose and wash our vehicles at home. They do a good job. I also use them to wash the RV, except for the roof. I let the rain take care of that. My uncle used to keep a bottle of dish soap in his truck. When he saw a rainstorm brewing, he'd squirt the soap on the truck and let Mother Nature do the work. Needless to say, his truck wasn't the cleanest I've ever seen.

Hah, I could see someone doing that with the dish soap. Apparently not such a good idea. lol

We were advised not to take our new car through a car-wash. We paid extra to have some sort of sun protection applied but apparently it doesn't like commercial cleaners.

Well, this is one of those self washes with the high pressure sprayers. I am assuming you are referring to the automatic ones? You have to be able to wash your car somehow I would presume.

They do well enough. After this one I did tell the wife it may be time to run the cars through one of the local hand washes. There is one nearby that charges about $25 but they do it all, windows, dash, vacuum, exterior...the works.

@CarolDM Not sure if it is the same. The last time I used it was probably three years ago. It's probably more now.

It never gets the job done like a hand wash does, but it does well enough and takes less time.

I haven’t used a self-wash in ages. Have fun, and don’t get too wet!
