Same Sex Burger?

Come on people. Come on Burger King. Can I just enjoy a frigging hamburger and not have "gay" shoved down my throat literally?
I am all for expression and equality and understanding. But do we really need to push all of this garbage at every turn?
Burger King is releasing it's "Pride Whopper" which will have two "same-sex" buns. Two tops or two bottoms and wrapped in a rainbow wrap. So far the reaction has been less than desirable which may be a good sign.
But Burger King stands by its campaign.
To me there is just no need for any of this and I think the entire thing is beginning to get quite ridiculous. The ones who SHOULD be offended are actually the ones a campaign like this is supposed to cater to. Because it sort of makes a mockery of the "cause."
I mean, when did we get to the point where a black portrayal on a box of rice or a syrup bottle became offensive and a "same sex" hamburger became okay?

I was just putting my opinion out there because I have gay friends. They, whoever they are... are taking it way too far. I agree, it goes well beyond gay. It is nonsense. Even with the children. Leave them alone already.
@CarolDM You know, the kids are something I hadn't even considered here. Imagine walking into a Burger King and being forced to explain what gay is just to have a simple lunch?
Perhaps the company execs should have thought of this as well. Or maybe they did. But the need to bring politics into their business is just too strong and perhaps they don't care.
I would think that even gay families still have "family values," and I am sure they would not want to have this conversation with their kids either.
You are right things have just gone too far.

@porwest Yes, look at what Pizza Hut is doing. They are facing fierce condemnation from social media critics for promoting a book about "drag kids" for its "Book It!" reading incentive program.
I could go on but I have better things to do.

Sanctions should not be applicable to companies like Burger King and McDonald's. These companies train locals. Once the locals know what is in there, they would start their own brands. Then that market share is gone forever! Natural for companies like Burger King to suffer. But this campaign is below the belt...literally. LOL

This, to me, would seem like a very bad way to go about making any inroads. I think a campaign like this will meet with more offense than applause, and not just from straights. but I think from the gay community alike. It's just not appropriate.

Seems a very sensitive theme to me.
I see what you mean though.
I would be a bit afraid of saying anything in case of the reaction.

That's not the point of course. We are talking about a business who's job it is to make money for its investors and franchisees. According to the story where I first learned of this, even the gay community is not really quite onboard with this, and I think for good reason. Can't we just enjoy a damn hamburger?
Besides that, "Tops or bottoms," has always been an offensive question to ask a gay person, particularly gay men. So, how do you phrase this when a customer asks for a gay burger?

@porwest there are plenty of gay men that are neither a top nor a bottom to be honest

So which gender gets the two tops and which gets the two bottoms?
Hubby told me about this yesterday. It's ridiculous. And having a burger with two tops doesn't seem practical.

I suppose that will be the greater debate. lol. But yes, the entire idea is ridiculous and I don't even think most of the gay community finds this an attractive idea either.
Beyond that this begs another question. Does the cashier ask when she takes your order, "Tops or bottoms?" So far as I am aware that has never been a question particularly gay men like to be asked because it suggests who's giving it and who's receiving it.

@porwest What do you find more appealing to the eye---the burger with two tops or the one with two bottoms?

@porwest I'd think the cashier has to ask a person's preference lol. But wouldn't that make the customer uncomfortable or awkward?

@LindaOHio I honestly think the country is losing its mind. I knew it was a work in progress for a while. But even the left is now cancelling the word "woman," because supposedly male and females do not exist anymore.
I just can't make this crap up anymore.

@Luis11 It really is extreme and I think makes a mockery of the movement. I am not convinced that even gay people find this particularly amusing.
One question that comes to mind is how do you ask, "Tops or bottoms?" without offending a gay person. Particularly gay men? Because to my recollection that has always been an offensive question to ask because it is asking the person if they are taking it or giving it. That's not a question you ask someone anymore than you would ask someone if they did it doggy style or missionary.
It's just a ridiculous idea fraught with all kinds of bad. This will not work well for Burger King.

probably not even come from there, it comes from marketing people who want to sell a few extra burgers that week
@58lordstreet As an investor of QSR, the parent company of Burger King, I want this marketing team fired.

And not a good one. Businesses constantly run into trouble when they get into politics, and the gay issue is certainly one rife with political connotations. The surprising thing is the demographics of these kinds of campaigns which will offend more people than attract, which is counterintuitive to their business goals—which begs the even bigger question. Why do it?
If a campaign like this does not go well it impacts individual operators, investors, and employees alike. Beyond that, Burger King continues to falter in the quick serve space and is currently #5. This won't help them to reach #4.

Sadly, a sign of these crazy radical times Everything needs a label and branding especially if it espouses a liberal viewpoint.

@porwest Maybe us normal American citizens should all cross the border into Mexico. You got a communist loving dictator in Canada in Trudeau and a bunch of left-wing radicals running the White House in the U.S. Maybe the socialist President South of the Border might be the most common sensical of them all.

@dgobucks226 For the first time in my life I think there may be more truth to this that I would ever care to admit. I am just hoping nobody with any real military presence doesn't get any crazy ideas. The U.S. has never been more vulnerable.

Businesses are dipping a bit too deeply into the political realm these days, something that I think is an extremely dangerous direction to go. Because the last thing you want to do is offend ANY customers. Just stick to selling products and leave the rest for barroom and dinner table discussions.

Okay, this is interesting. I sort of agree with you on this. But I'll eat the burger nevertheless. Don't tell me that there'll be a feminist burger next.

You can just dont get the pride what was it? A pride whopper *chuckles*
Im glad I dont eat burgers from fast food places. Im part of the community and I dont think I would ever get a 'pride burger' same with I dont think I have ever bought something with a rainbow on it to signify my sexuality cause it doesnt need to be put on display cause noone cares and if they do I dont really want to be attacked verbally or physically by the crazies.
Its just to get money more than likely dopey "allies" that think they are good cause they ate a rainbow wrapped burger will eat it. Does it cost more than a regular burger?

Apparently the price was the same and for good reason, Burger King pretty much scrapped the entire idea. It got a ton of backlash and no one appreciated the "idea" at all. From either side of the fence. While I don't agree with the lifestyle, but at the same really don't care one way or the other, I certainly agree it is wildly bad marketing. lol
What's next? A trans burger where the meat is actually chicken but identifies as beef?

@porwest I cant eat beef all the time (red meat makes me puke) so this would be fine. Does kinda imply that trans people are pieces of meat you should put in your mouth though............ *giggles*
