"The Office" is a mockumentary TV series that first aired in the UK from 2001-2002 and was created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Gervais also played the lead role of David Brent, Regional Manager of Wernham Hogg, a paper company. The series was then made in Germany as an insurance company and then finally in the US. It has since been remade in 9 other countries.
The US version ran from 2005-2013 and starred Steve Carell as Michael Scott, Regional Manager of Dunder Mifflin, a paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The premise of the show is that a documentary is being filmed at Dunder Mifflin and cameras are always present. This is a comedy.
Some of the major players: Ed Helms plays Andy Bernard, a member of the Sales Staff, and also appears as Regional Manager when Michael Scott leaves the company, John Krasinski (Jim Halpert - Senior Sales Representative), Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute - Assistant to the Regional Manager), Jenna Fischer (Pam Beasley - Receptionist), Ellie Kemper (Erin Hannon - Receptionist) and B. J. Novak (Ryan Howard - Temp).
A bit of trivia...Creed Bratton plays Creed Bratton Quality Assurance Representative. Creed is a former member of the band The Grass Roots.
The show has received awards such as a Golden Globe, Emmy and Screen Actors Guild Award. It is the #1 streamed show on Netflix.
Next to "Friends" this is my favorite comedy series. If you are able to access the British version, I suggest you watch that first just to compare shows. I vastly prefer the US version. Reruns can be found on cable or satellite TV Monday through Friday.
Definitely a must-see! The large ensemble cast is superb and the laughs are numerous. Check out the trailer below!

No problem. I couldn't stand Seinfeld; and it was a popular show.

It's a documentary that mocks the situation -- a comedy. Here's what the internet says: "a motion picture or television program that takes the form of a serious documentary in order to satirize its subject".

This is one sitcom that I never got around to seeing. I've heard so many good things about it and how funny it is that I almost feel left out by not being able to comment. Guess it's time I watched it
