I don't like the smell of durian the first time i smell and see this fruit i cannot help thinking why people would love to eat this smelly fruit. But upon knowing that this kind of fruit had lots of variety i investigate and try the local here in thailand which variety of durian is the less smelly that i can try and they recommended the Muntong variety which is the one they usually export but as you say export it is also expensive. So to make the story short i bought one Muntong Durian, it still has this smell but not as bad as the smell of the other Durian (Baan Durian). So i tried Muntong Durian for the first time at first i puke and say why did i do this to myself it is like i put a rotten garlic inside my mouth cause the smell was overwhelming so my thai friend said try to do it again and this time you close your eyes and ignore the smell as much as you can and just focus on how the fruit feels as it goes in your mouth and in your tongue which i did follow her advice. In that second attempt i manage to catch the taste of the durian, it is sweet as a mangoes. Its like your eating a ripe mangoes with a bad smell, i will not say i like durian but it made me wonder to try the other product that has Durian and one of it is the famous Durian Ice cream, well the durian was already process so i thought maybe this time the smell will be gone. So they brought me my Durian ice cream and i was so excited for it looks so yummy but as they put my order in the table the smell was still there but lesser that the original fruit so i said just dig in and enjoy which in the end i did not regret at all cause it was very delicious. So if you cannot eat the Durian fruit itself try the ice cream it is very creamy and delicious.

I don't think I would force myself to eat something that didn't smell appealing.

I came across Durian in Singapore and Thailand. I couldn't withstand the smell and did not dare to try it. But later I tried Durian icecream and jam. They had no smell and they were the best icecream and jam that I have ever tasted. I bet the fruit will be yummy too. Wish it didn't have that repelling strong smell.

@shebullet Thank God. Both the icecream and jam were not having the smell else I would have not had it.When I got the smell of the fruit it made me sick and nauseating. Now it really makes me think if it was actually the fruit added or just the artificial taste of the same. But it was super delicious.

I never tried Durian Ice cream but candies are good. The smell is not too awful when it is already in a candy

If ever you visit thailand or other asian country that grows this kind of fruit your vacation won't be complete if you don't try the fruit at all.

Yes it is indeed nutritious. It is rich in fiber, vitamin C, potassium and vitamin B. The smell might be devious but its like the smell is the way of keeping the gems that it has away from predator, lol

I don't like the smell of it too. But with candy I candy tolerate it. Just not the fruit itself.
