How far would you go to avoid standing in line?

I need some more mulch and was considering getting some at Lowe's yesterday, of course I looked at the garden center and saw 4 or 5 people waiting in line. I think I would have saved about a buck over the price of mulch at the local garden center, but I still had to go to Walmart and had already spent about 1.5 hours at NTB for an oil change, so I wasn't inclined to stand in line. Besides, the garden center will carry it to the car and load it...and not sure Lowe's would do that. Sometimes your time is just worth more than standing in line. Besides, supporting small business in the community is good to do.

Depends on what I am buying. 4-5 people in line is not too bad for me.

It sort of depends on what else I have to do.. That isn't a terrible line, but I was a long way from home.

@CarolDM Oh well if mulch came from an online source you would probably have a huge box to deal with. I would rather support local business I think.

I am not good at standing in line. I prefer to pay a little more but go to a small local business.

It seems like you always hit a big line when you have other things to do.

@snowy22315 I noticed that and it happens also while you have to go through a paying booth with your car.

I agree that sometimes your time is worth more than standing in line for something. I definitely would have chosen the garden center too especially if they carry it to the car for you. One reason I'm happy we have all that taken care of here in our HOA fees. (lawn, mulch, trimming bushes, etc)

That's awesome, I bet you pay a hefty fee for that though. Here the fee is quite minimal but not a lot of maintenance is provided other than snow removal, most of it goes to maintaining the docks. We do pay for the electric gate too at the lake, but that is well worth the cost.

@Marilynda1225 That's cool. Where I used to live I can't remember exactly what they were but they were high and were monthly charges 900 sticks in my brain, but that seems excessive. They probably weren't that much. They did have a pool there though and cut all the common areas etc. However, there were many concrete and asphalt pathways leading into the woods. They didn't do a thing to maintain those!

@snowy22315 actually my HOA fees aren't bad and they haven't been raised in years. But we don't have any amenities like a pool or clubhouse

Totally agree there. I hate lines. I'll even shop at off-hours to avoid them. Only so many hours to a day and a detest spending them standing around doing nothing but waiting.

Avoid Friday evening that is usually a bad time. Sat AM is busy but by the afternoon everybody seems to be gone!

@dgobucks226 I think people like to spend their paychecks on Fri, and some get their errands down Sat. and go on to other activities, or kick back.

Standing in line won't be a problem for me, also it will help you test and practice patience. You can use as a motivation to wait for your turn the idea of your purpose of buying product in that store and that is you want to help the small business in your community.

4-5 people in line is quite common in Hong Kong, I accept it. However, if there are more than 10 people, I would hesitate. If I need to buy something or there's a special promotion, I would go very early when the shop just open to avoid the crowd.

I'm with you. We don't often have to queue for stuff here - just sometimes in supermarkets.
