Intermittent Fasting Update #2

So I began the 8/16 intermittent fasting the second week of April. However, I have found myself going 18 or even 19 hours without eating, but mostly 18 hours. I just piddle around when I wake up and the next thing I know it's 18 hours. How have I done. Can't believe I put my watch on in the 4th hole today! I started at the 2nd when I got it in October. Seems I'm losing all my weight in my wrists. Yes, I have lost 12 pounds. I see a difference in the waist area but not above or below that. Just that hour glass shape on the sides. I can see a difference in my face and, yeah, my wrists. For those just tuning in, I have arthritis in my knees and shoulders. Walking on the treadmill has been taken off the table for now (knees haven't been bothering me too much lately). Physio put me on a pedal/bike thingamajig and that caused pain in my hip flexors. So I couldn't do that either. I have been using a twisting board. When my watch tells me it's time to get up and move I get on the twisting board for a couple of minutes (that's all I can manage at one time). So 12 pounds in two months. I'm about half way to my goal weight, but would really like to see a change in my belly. Oh, I also have the added bonus of waking up in the morning without any stomach discomfort of one kind or another... most days. I still have IBS. That's not going to go away, but not eating at night helps with my morning stomach issues. I never thought I would be able to do this... and there are still times when I want to eat. I was starving last night and was sure I was going to cheat before I went to bed. Even a tiny bite of something breaks the fast because it's all about kickstarting the metabolism. I don't wake up hungry though. I should be looking great in a swim suit come time to head to the tropics in December!

you go girl! and don't worry about cheating- it's okay to miss a day or two as long as you don't slide all the way. I have tried intermittent fasting and improving my diet and I've lost 18 pounds in 2 mos. with little to no exercise!

Congrats on your weight loss. I have to say I am limited in exercising but I do use a twist board for a few minutes a couple of times a day.

I've heard about the intermittent fasting. I don't know if that will be good or not.

People have lost a lot of weight on intermittent fasting. There are 3 different programs. The other two consist of 24 hours of fasting 2 or 3 days a week (not all in a row). I never thought I would be able to do this but I was a terrible night time snacker. Add to that, the people in my house keep weird hours. My daughter's fiance will come in at 9pm and ask what I want for dinner. So while the rest of the family is in eating pizza at 8 or 9pm, I am not eating. Just drinking water... lots and lots of water. You know how they say if you're hungry, drink water. You may just be thirsty. It's pretty accurate. I am so thirsty now that I'm not snacking.

Well done on sticking to the diet. Do you have a pool nearby where you could just walk in the water? It's hard if there is so little you can do in the way of moving.

We have an above ground pool in our backyard, 4 feet deep all around. If the weather would just warm up and thereby warm the water up, I would be out there walking around and swimming.

Wow, that's amazing. Good for you. I have had trouble trying to do intermittent fasting. I like to eat too much, and it's very hard for me to wait that long. I don't know though, your story makes me want to try it again! Keep up the good work!

It can't hurt to try. I have to tell you there were a couple of nights in the first couple of weeks that I was positively starving before I went to bed, or I couldn't sleep because I was so hungry, and I got up and had a couple of handfuls of cheerios or something. One night someone left the pizza out and I went to put it away. I looked at it and saw it was my favourite kind that no one ever orders so I had a slice before I went to bed. I immediately regretted it, BUT, I think a couple of cheat nights here and there is okay. Yesterday afternoon I met a friend for ice cream. I had one scoop sorbet (not that it matters what I had) but I didn't get home until 7:30. My cut-off time is 7:00. I had some yogurt, multi-grain rye bread toast and 2 cheese balls. That was my dinner. So my cut-off time was extended to 8 pm. So I go a little longer before breakfast... unfortunately I've been awake since 8. When I first started I went on whatever schedule dinner was at and I found that what was needed is a consistent schedule. So I had to tell everyone my cut-off time is 7pm. I also found my stomach was upset a few days last week. Now, I do have IBS but I think what I was doing was trying to eat as much as I could before 7pm and I was too full. My stomach has probably shrunk and by stuffing myself before cut-off it was upsetting my stomach. I am learning there is more to it than just stopping night time snacking, but that is a good place to start.
