I'm still suffering from a crippling case of Writer's Block. My Doctor, Morticia Strangelove, says it's caused by my Chronic Incurable Workaholism.
It's spurred by the same sort of mechanism that produces The Law Of Diminishing Returns. I'd explain it better than that if I could but I can't.
I'm not a Neurologist, Psychologist or Economist. I'm a Gynecologist. That means I practice real medicine and science that's really useful all the time.
Rather than what is oftentimes questionable medicine and science that is useful on occasion. Anyway, Dr. Morticia says it all boils down to me wanting to work so much that I can't.
If you want a deeper explanation, go talk to a bunch of Neurologists, Psychologists and/or Economists. Good luck with that. But do it on your own time.
Right now, let's talk about Lab Grown Meat. Meat grown from cells, without the animal. Meat that is free of moral and ethical dilemmas while at the same time having far fewer economic, environmental and health problems.
I fail to understand why anyone would be not in favor of it and yet nearly everyone I know is dead set against it. In the very near future, they won't have many options. It will be Lab Grown Meat or Vegetarianism. But that's another topic for another day.
How do you feel about it?

Cultivated meat is made from animals cells, not livestock. Here's how it's made, where the US stands on approval and how it could affect human and environmental health.

@xander6464 .......The FDA? That's not my experience with that organization. They are meager at best.

The FDA does a really good job at tracing the meat supply, so we can be pretty sure. What is confusing is that the FDA is a government agency and yet they manage to do something right.

@xander6464 American distrust of science has reached a ridiculous level. In truth, I would have no problem with lab-grown meat. It probably all tastes like chicken.

@DWDavis They're saying that will be able turn genes on and off to such a degree that they'll be able to cut cholesterol and calories while making beef taste like the most expensive cuts.

I imagine that's one of the reasons so many have a problem with it.

@jstory07 They will have to adjust but they'll find something else. And they'd have to anyway because meat is getting so expensive to produce that soon, people won't be able to buy it.

@xander6464 If this work and they do not add chemicals or other garbage, it's a good project.

@LadyDuck That's another big plus with the lab-grown meat. You'll get all the quality plus added benefits at an affordable price.

I like it. There'd be things I'd like to know about it first - like does it have any different ingredients than actual meat would? How is it made? So on... But I like the thought of ethical meat without killing an animal or taking all those resources to produce. Also, hopefully that would mean you could get delicious cuts of meat that is always flavorful and tender with just the right amount of fat and hopefully it'd be cheaper....

As far as I can tell, it's supposed to be just stem cells and grain. the best part is that they say they will be able to turn on and off genes so that it will be more flavorful with no cholesterol and fewer calories. And it will be cheaper. If it weren't they wouldn't be doing it.

@xander6464 Wow, that is pretty fantastic. The very best cuts of meat without killing an animal or the high price tag is very appealing

It has been a really low-key story so far. I've been following it for more than ten years now but the stories have always been hard to find.

It's going to take people a while to get past that scene.
