Fear of road

In 1998, I had my driving lessons. I know I have this fear of the road but many told me if I learned how to drive, my fear will go away. Wrong! I didn't overcome my fear on the road and up to this day, I still have this fear so I can't drive alone. I want to get rid of this fear, but how?
