My friends mother had the pain pump device installed at the bottom of her spine. 6 months later it quit working and then the dr said he could not take it out because mothers skin was to thin….. she is no quadriplegic and has had several strokes. Anyone outhere had similar events happen to themselves or a loved one?

I have never witnessed anything like it. Diseases that affect the spine are extremely uncomfortable and painful. My husband sometimes feels a lot of discomfort in his back. Once he had a lumbar pain and his leg stiffened. He was in a lot of pain and had difficulty moving around. So I can imagine the suffering of those who go through something similar.

No, I don't, but I can understand the risk the doctor doesn't want to take with someone who's already had several strokes. That raises the risk of complications. At the same time leaving a forgone object in, can cause a host of other problems so it's really what's the lesser of two evils? While the pump is no longer working, it's location, and the fact it's not doing anything... it's also not causing problems. So it's better to let it be, because the risks to remove are too high. If the device starts causing other complications, then they may discuss removing it.
It's like when you get shoot. If they can reach and remove the bullet safely, they will. If not.... then.... yep.

True, but she never had any strokes until they put the device in. I cannot wrap my head around the thought of having a broken machine inside your body…..ouch!
