Roger Miller Top Ten: Open Up Your Heart (#2)

We’ve passed the “tall tall trees” that Roger Miller wrote about and we’re in the top two of my favorite songs that he recorded. Thanks again to @xander6464 for the suggestion, and I hope he’s enjoying this. Here’s today’s song. #2: Open Up Your Heart Oh, you talk about a song that gets stuck on repeat when it comes on the iPod! Wow. A lot of people were too busy laughing (or at least chuckling) at Roger Miller’s novelty-type songs to listen to some of the lyrics. One of my favorite opening lines is a Miller tune: “the moon is high, and so am I” (from “The Moon Is High”) He played with words better than most. Take the line “what does it take to make the whole world whirl” from “Squares Make the World Go Round.” Here he was at it in the most enviable of ways. Read this line from the chorus: Jiggle it a little, it’ll open Tickle it a little, it’ll fly Nothing much, huh? Then listen to how it comes out. Amazing. Another one of Miller’s happy, upbeat songs from the early 70s that I love so much.
