Well, dang me, but it’s time for the end of the Roger Miller countdown! We may have to roller skate in a buffalo herd for further investigation of this brilliant singer/songwriter one day, but for now it closes out. Thanks again to @xander6464 for the suggestion. Here’s the top song on my list. #1: Train of Life (No, Linda.) A little sad…okay, a lot sad. The protagonist thinks, like many people have at one point, that the eponymous figure of speech is zooming right on by him. While the song itself is good, what I absolutely LOVE about this song is Miller’s vocal range. I’ll bet you never thought the guy who “whoop-boop-boo-ba-doo-doo-doo-doo”’d his way through the opening of “Dang Me” had a voice like this. He did. Rest In Peace, Roger. Thanks for all the terrific songs. And thank you all for reading. Train of Life Written by Roger Miller From Words and Music by Roger Miller, 1966 I’m tired of sitting on the side track:

I don't recognize either one of the songs this morning. (Or the song JJ mentioned in his discussion, either.)

It was pretty well hidden behind all those lighthearted songs.

A lot of people find this one depressing but I like it.

Jim Reeves once said he loved to sing sad songs even though he wasn’t a sad person.

I don’t know if anyone else covered this, so it was probably just relegated to an album cut.

Don’t worry about that. I like “Putnam County” but not enough to use in a countdown. Other than that, I leave appreciation of Waits to others.
