I Thought I Could Do It

I turned on the tv at 5p. for the evening's news. I thought it would be good to check in and see how the world was doing and what was going on. My anxiety immediately started going up. The gas prices are almost $5 now. There was a bad earthquake in one of the poorest areas of Afghanistan. The Uvalde elementary school is going to be demolished. No child or teacher could go back into the building after what happened there. Airlines have canceled 1000 or more flights recently. Shark attack in California. Man badly injured. I am just appalled. Great day to check-in. Not! How are you folks doing?

The news only reports on what's going to cause the most drama. So, short of a weather report that may or may not be accurate, I can't be bothered to turn on the news. Although demolishing a school seems a bit extreme.

The demolishing of this school is only going to cause tax hikes probably.

@kaylachan ........Dure to what happened there I can certainly understand the feeling to want to demolish it. I wonder what they will finally decide to do.

@celticeagle Probably, but I think they might rather close and leave it, then demolish it. It's just to costly to demolish a building.

That’s why I hardly ever watch the news. I can’t do a thing about it so why upset myself. I hear more than I want without listening to TV.

Me too. Just like the newscaster so thought I'd give it a shot. Learned my lesson.

I don't know why the media emphasizes more on such news. That's the reason I don't like watching the news in detail.

It's because people think it is how you are supposed to keep up with what's happening in the world as if it's the only way. And media isn't just tv, it's radio, internet, newspapers, magazines, etc. too. People just get hung up on tv news is the way to keep up with the world, even though there are a ton of other ways to do that.

Nothing is good about the world if you watch the tv. Bad news are given emphasis.

@celticeagle I really enjoy watching cartoons too. They're not only for kids but we adults love watching them.

I am kind of the opposite now, although I didn't used to be. Two of my adult children often travel far and wide for work. Another travels in-state for his job. I watch the news in the morning and drink my coffee, and most of the time I watch the news in the evening, depending on what I am doing. Always try to catch the local news once per day and the world news once per day. It is what it is, I want to be informed, I understand people don't like the news. None of us do, but not watching it is worse for me.

I would like to be informed too but, my anxiety won't stand for it most of the time.

@celticeagle I totally understand. I often shut it off and read about it the next day when I get sickened, like the school shootings.

I can get informed enough about the news without actually watching it, either from my boyfriend telling me what he saw on the news or online or catching those news updates that pop up between programs while you watch a tv show. If it works for you, to watch it daily so be it, but it doesn't work for all of us.

I know how you feel, I do not every watch or listen to the news, I have a couple of news letters coming in my email and I quickly glance at what I should know in case something might come falling on my head and then just do my work, Tropical heat continues and I keep to my PC and AC

I have to not watch the news much for the sake of not increasing my anxiety. My bf watches and tells me stuff but I dont watch myself. He also doesn't tell me a lot of detail which is helpful. I just limit the news as much as possible for myself. Back when the whole swine flu epidemic happened I panicked so badly about it from news reports that I was agoraphobic, I couldn't leave my home unless I was with one of my safe people and even then it was anxiety filled. I can't repeat that, so the less news the better.

well that is bad. that is why sometimes I just don't watch news or go more into social media as it can give anxiety. plus im an overthinker. I always think, what if this happens to me and blah blah blah. that is why Im sometimes scared watching bad news
