Parents need to be genuinely involved in all of their young children’s activities- - -be it at school or in their social pursuits. It is important to let children know that you will be available to discuss things of interest to them. Avoid being judgmental. Be a good listener and encourage your child to talk freely and express their concerns to you whenever the need arises. Avoid criticizing your child’s choice of clothes, friends or pursuits. Demonstrate your delight when your child proudly announces his being a captain of the soccer team or when your daughter has earned a medal for the local swimming competition. All children hanker for their parent’s approval. It is important for parents to validate their accomplishments by praising them appropriately. When children see their parents being supportive and encouraging, it will raise their self-esteem, enhance their performance and result in positive growth. The kind of relationship you build with your children can vastly contribute to their future. Make sure that you always convey trust, love and respect to them. Your interest, responsiveness, availability and encouragement in every phase of your child’s development, can go a long way in creating a bright future for your child.

I agree with what you are saying here. Kids need the support of parents but not a smothering effect. There is no handbook but there is common sense.

I agree. But some parents do want the children live with their dreams, not the children's dream.

@Adie04 Well, I would add here: There must be a fine balance between the parents and their child's dream. Each must compliment the other to keep it alive and fresh.

@Gabugs Agree with that addition. Unfortunately, I know this case I mentioned above, and sadly, the child has gone.

That's absolutely true. Without parents, children may go astray in their future life. I like the photo.
