Happy Canada Day!
On the news the other day, I heard that the place we like to ski, (Sunshine Village in Banff) was going to be open over this Canada Day weekend!
I called Hubby and told him to start packing. He could not be convinced.
We were there a few days before they closed on May 23. There was a lot of snow, but not many skiers. That is often why they end the season, people stop coming.
Anyway, that is where I wish I was today.

@paigea - They are still trying to find those missing, I fear they will never find them, or many years from now, when the ice melts.
People go climbing mountains or skiing when they do not know the mountains, it can be extremely dangerous.

@LadyDuck I saw that headline! Tragic. A few years ago, 5 hikers in British Columbia stepped onto a cornice (overhang of snow). It broke off and they were killed.
The ski hill is packed snow on an established slope. It's very safe. The hikers going all over, or back country skier's would be more at risk if not taking care about where they go.

Happy Canada Day!
Is there still snow on the ground in Banff? That would be a dream come true for me, to be able to enjoy snow in the summer! I can only dream about that here in Florida! haha

@paigea That’s pretty much what I imagined. It was like the mountain too property my parents used to own in Colorado. Even in the wickedest heat of summer we almost always still had snow on the ground.

@moffittjc A friend just told me they were in Banff last week. There is still snow and ice on trails close to town.

So did your hubby say no to your ideas of skiing this weekend? I'm surprised it's cold enough there to keep snow on their hills or mountains. I'm equally surprised they were still open in may.
Happy Canada day, so that holiday is today then?
