A business had to stop building

In the town that my husband and son work in which is thirty minutes away, something crazy recently happened. A Dunkin Donuts had broken ground to build a new Donut Shop, laid the foundation, put water pipes in etc, then promptly stopped construction. The reason is because the company made a mistake in the zoning map. They had put some of the foundation in the next door Burger King lot. I don't know how it will be corrected. I've never heard of this happening. Have you heard of something like this happening?

Our city is in shambles in the plea of renovation. All over the city we have such incomplete structures.

I never heard of anything like that happening. They can "buy" from Burger King the piece of land where they put their foundation I suppose.

It's possible, can be hard to tell where my yard ends and my neighbor's begins. But, that's life I guess.

We had to get a survey of our property border, because on one side, we have weird neighbors who call the cops any time they think someone is on their property.

I have not. Will Burger King be able to provide an "easement," or whatever they call it?

This is the first time I have ever heard of a business having to stop construction of a building due to the error of having the foundation of another business. This only happened in a Jetsons cartoon.

It does seem like a plot for a comedy show.

@LeaPea2417 The Jetsons cartoon was a comedy cartoon produced by Hanna Barbera Productions.

I actually did hear news about it the other day. They were able to work out the Zoning issue, so building has started up again.

I've never heard like this happening in my area, but in residential areas, it can happen. That's why my neighbors have walls or fences erected all-around their perimeters. I admire houses in Cheyenne in the US because in subdivisions, you can rarely see tall fences or walls that separate neighbors but everyone respects each other's properties. Here in the Philippines, we have erected tall walls and fences to keep other people out of our properties.

We have solid fences around our yard, especially the back yard for total privacy.

Uh-oh. That's a pretty bad miscalculation. I've never heard of that particular incident happening, but I have seen plenty of human error because someone (or a group) did not do their job thoroughly. I wonder how they're going to settle that one!

The easy way would be to buy the part they need from Burger King. It can be easy enough to make that kind of mistake.

There was a court case here just a few days ago where the owner of one London house prosecuted his neighbour because said neighbour had extended his basement actually underneath the first owner's house! The second person blamed his contractors of course.

well, they can rezone, destroy everything and start over with the correct zoning and measurements. or ... rezone, and buy the land. and surrounding area. and continue with a revised map and zoned area.

It happens, although not often. But I am not sure how this will be resolved. It's going to have to be something corrected through some agreement between the government and the adjoining lot owner.

I know sometimes when companies start construction on a job they run out of money and the project never happens, or they change their mind or something. Nothing exactly like what you described though.
