A long day out shopping.

Yesterday we went out shopping and to have a birthday lunch for me. We set off at about 10:45am and walked on the top path round Stowe Pool. There we sat on a couple of benches. The first one wasn't in the shade and it was a very hot day again. The second bench we sat on I made sure it was in the shade and we watched the ducks on Stowe Pool for a bit. Then we went to the toilet by the Cathedral. My Mum was pushing the trolley so she was going to go in the disabled toilet where there's more room. But we thought someone was in there because the circle in the door was red which usually indicated engaged. But the door opened and no-one was in there. The lock had broken and whatever you did it always stayed red for engaged. Anyway Mum went in there and I went in another. After we'd been to the toilet we went to Bistro No. 19 which is right next to the toilets for my birthday lunch. I had a cup of green tea and a Garden Breakfast. They didn't have any vegan sausages so instead I had extra mushrooms and an extra bubble and squeak (which is like the hash browns that you get from No.24 Market Street). There were 3 small tomatoes, a pot of baked beans, 2 bubble and squeak, 2 mushrooms, some extra mushroom bits, some oniony stuff and two slices of toast. It was very nice. My Mum had a sandwich with coleslaw on the side, and a cup of regular tea. After we came out of Bistro No. 19 we went up to the Three Spires Shopping centre and sat on a bench (which is where I took the photo, above). It was very hot so after a while I went and stood in the shade. We then went to Rileys for some fruit and vegetables. We got some strawberries, half a cucumber, some cherry tomatoes and some lettuce. After we came out of Rileys Mum went into The Card Factory to get me a birthday card, and I was going to go and sit on a bench by B&M, but when I got there the electric board were digging up the ground and the benches were inaccessible. There was a van blocking some of them and the rest were in the middle of the road works! So I went back to the card factory and waited outside for my Mum. When she came out she didn't notice me, so I had to go up to her before she realised I was there! I told my Mum what had happened and we went back up to where the road works were. I sat on a seat outside No.24 Market Street for a few moments but then I said, it'd be cooler inside, so we went in. It was too hot for a cappuccino with soy milk today, so we had black currant and lemonade instead. It came with a straw, and it was supposed to be a small one, but it looked big enough. When we came out of No.24 Market Street it was already 4:05pm! Mum couldn't believe what time it was and she phoned up my step-dad to say we'd probably be late! By the time we came out of the pub the electric board had finished for the day, so a couple of the benches were accessible. I went and sat on one while Mum phoned my step-dad, and then she went to Iceland for some stuff, and then to Waterstones for some presents for my step-dad and birthday presents for me, while I waited on the bench. Then we set off for home. First we went to the toilet by the Cathedral again, and then we walked home round the top path by Stowe Pool again, and sat on some benches. We watched the ducks and further down we watched a mass congregation of geese. There were loads of them. By the time we got home it was 7:10pm! I kid you not! (Photo:- A view up the Three Spires Shopping centre. You can tell how hot it is by the way the shadow is falling across the path.)

Thanks for the picture. Where are the cars? This reminds me of pictures Hanni shared of streets in her city. Our streets are full of cars and people stay on the side walks. And I see a bench that looks like it’s in the middle of the street.I see how you can stop and sit on a bench while shopping. This is amazing.

@sharonelton I love that but it would never happen here. I can see why you enjoy shopping. Here it’s a-chore, finding a parking place and getting in and out of stores.

There are no cars because it is a pedestrian area! Yes, the benches are in the middle of the street. There are two back to back. There are about four lots up the street. I'm actually sitting on one to take the picture. And there are two more sets of two benches round the corner under cover. Thank you. It is amazing.

@RubyHawk It's great to have a pedestrian area and not have to worry about cars. We do have other streets where cars go and you have to keep to the path. Luckily for us it's in walking distance so we can walk. And the walk is really pleasant around Stowe Pool.

It looks like it was a nice and fun day. Usually when it's like this the day goes by so fast that we don't even notice.

Thank you very much. Yes, that is true. I didn't know where the time had gone when we came out of the pub and it was already 4:05pm! My Mum couldn't believe it when I told her!

It is a bit tiring. My Mum is slow and gets tired easily, but she manages. I think it's because we rest on benches often and that's what gets us through.

Good morning and thank you very much. Yes, I had a great day, thank you. It was a bit hot to go outside. I just went to the little Tesco again and it wasn't too hot out. It will get hotter as the day goes on.
