A dining extravaganza

We had a lovely dinner here last night with family but Vin and I forgot to take any photos of the dishes, although we had intended to. We had seafood chowder to start with then a lovely rack of pork and ended up with bavarois, a sort of egg custard. We had to upend the bavarois so it was set in individual moulds but we got them out without them breaking. Vince had a coulis (sauce) with blueberries and interestingly the coulis was a deep red. I thought it would have been more blue. We put a dab of cream on each serve and several strawberry pieces. I still don’t feel like anything to eat although I didn’t over-indulge. However, it’s not often I have three courses nowadays. The photo shows one of the desserts we had on the Queen Mary cruise ship. It’s sort of the shape of our bavarois.

@JudyEv Whether or not it's a compliment depends very much on your view of millenials We're currently dealing with a pretty tragic situation at home and I needed a distraction so I thought where better than myLot? Good chat, wonderful people. I've missed it.

So nice to see your name again - and even better to get a compliment. At least, I think it's a compliment. I'd just about given up on you. Hope you and your family are all well.

We cooked what I wrote about but the photo is from the Queen Mary. Our bavarois was in a similar shape.

@allknowing Very definitely if you're talking about the bavarois but if you're talking about the photo taken on the Queen Mary it's mine.

A blueberry coulis cannot be read, I suppose they made a mistake and added a strawberry or raspberry coulis. Making a bavarois is not at all hard, getting out of the mold "perfectly" is another matter.

@JudyEv I am going to check your discussion, but now that you mention this, I remember that I added frozen blueberries to my yogurt and it turned red instead of blue.

We bought blueberries and cooked them and they were red when cooked. We wouldn't have believed it either if we hadn't actually cooked it. I've written about it now and attached a photo. It's a very deep red but I don't think you could call it blue.

That's very pretty although I don't know if it would taste very good. (I've never seen anything like that.) You're always supposed to be ready with a camera! You know how much we love seeing the pictures you and Vince take!

That's so true! Time and time again we've planned and prepared for what seems like forever then, after about half an hour, all you have left are dirty dishes!!

@Ronrybs Since we moved, we have barely enough of anything if we have a dinner party for seven. As it was, we had to borrow three chairs. We actually had plastic chairs but they're a bit low and as Vince's brother was coming he kindly brought three chairs with him. But it was a good excuse to abuse him because they were dark leather and not cream like ours. This may not seem to have much to do with washing up but I had to wash some cutlery between courses which reminded me of the chairs.

@snowy22315 The presentation was to drool over - except they didn't really want you drooling on their desserts. Here's a terrine entree.

We had a similar mould shape but the sauce was just drizzled round the bottom. Maybe we'll manage spots next time.

Every country has their different dishes, don't they? The dessert was just a glorified custard but it did look, and taste, nice.

Glad that you enjoyed the dinner extravaganza. And this presentation of the dessert makes it so tempting.. Even I am not able to eat three course meals now. I am full till rim and feel heavy for couple of days. Light meals are more enjoyable.

@JudyEv That's what happens to my family too. After a good feasting, we all go for a day of fasting or light fruits till we get back to normal . But being a diabetic, I can't go for feasting or fasting. So, I stick to my moderate intake.

It's winter here so the chowder was especially welcome. Vince used to have a lot of egg custard type dishes growing up so he doesn't like them as much as I do.

@JudyEv It's not that expensive in India. We can go out for dinner but we stay back thinking of the covid infection.
