Is There a Difference between a Sermon and a Homily?

On Ad Council's BelongingBeginsWithUs-site, we are given several ways to "Join in" (to learn how to help bring others into our various communities, I suppose; and "to make sure everyone in your community feels like they belong).
On their 'join in'-page, we are given the options (among many others) to "Listen to a homily about belonging" or to "Hear a sermon about belonging."
I can find the difference, but first I want to know if YOU know if there's a difference?
In case you don't know what a 'homily' is: in the Catholic 'Mass' (i.e. church-service), we'll often listen to a few readings from The Bible & then the priest will come up to the pulpit (or -will STAY there, as they're often the one to do the day's last reading) and will give 'a talk'---usually about 'how the day's readings apply to current events.'
The difference between that homily and a sermon--then--is 'its launchpad' ... the homily launches from recently-read scripture-passages; the sermon, from the sermonizer's group's (church's, class's, family's) current concerns?
What do YOU think the difference is (between a sermon and a homily)?

@PhredWreck is correct, the subject of the homily is the scripture, the sermon is a speech or discourse on religion or morals. It is a long time I do not go to Church.

@LadyDuck You really made that easy to understand. So I guess I have heard a homily then.

I think homily is like telling a story.
While sermon is mocking people LOL

Well, the homily is more like 'the moral of a story.'

Like JJ said, a sermon is how we are to live right and our morals. Homily is where pastor or priest tells stories to help people learn the scripture better.

I've only heard sermons and never heard a homily (I don't think), so I'm not sure.
