Give Me A Sign

While driving along one of the main roads near me I noticed that the cats eyes had been removed from the road. Unusually observant of me you may think but I can't take the credit. The clue was in the large road-sign proclaiming "Cat's Eyes Removed". I did have to chuckle when some 50 yards further along the road some wag had erected their own sign saying "Mice Happy". Sadly I don't have a photograph of this as I was driving and I'm a responsible driver.(Responsible for accidents all over the Greater Manchester area. As the saying goes I've not been in an accident but I've seen plenty in my rear-view mirror!!) I have enormous respect for anyone who puts in so much effort to put a smile on the face of passing strangers. Well done whoever you are.

I had to look up what "cat's eyes" in the road meant. I'd never known there was a name for the reflective disks used to mark double yellow lines before. The responding sign would have made me laugh!

They seem to be replacing them with actual lights (solar-powered I assume) on a lot of roads near me. Call me old-fashioned but there's an elegant simplicity to the original reflective cat's eyes.

@WorDazza With the way the reflective cat's eyes get damaged and destroyed by traffic, how can anyone think that will be cost-effective?

@DaddyEvil Maybe these days the cost of producing small solar powered LED lights is less than the reflective discs.

If I'd had someone else in the car with me I would have got them to take a photograph to share here.

@sica98 Actually, I've just had a thought. I can check my dashcam footage. If it hasn't been overwritten I should be able to get a still shot.

I didn't get a photo either but there was a sign on the lawn outside a local church. It read 'No parking on the verge'. Someone had added an 'r' to 'verge' which I thought was pretty smart.

That's brilliant. And I'm sure the verger was pleased they were being so well protected.

@JudyEv Me too. Although there is also a little bit of jealousy that I didn't think of it.

These spur of the moment signs are usually the best.

I just love the thought of someone chuckling to themselves as they bash away in their shed creating the sign. I hope they've hung around to see the reactions.

I have two cats and can definitely say cats and most small animals don't mix. Our cats have killed mice, small birds, pigeons and even frogs!!

@ihasaquestion Yes, I sometimes think they won't be happy until they are the only species on the planet.
