One thing you can count on in summer is days of sunshine and nice weather to enjoy. And there is so many things to do when "the weather's fine;" like swimming, fishing, barbecues, min-golf, t-shirts, taking a drive, or even enjoying the view of those flowers in bloom with a nice cool drink. So, here are a few tunes reflecting those summer sentiments, perhaps you've heard of them. Comments, musings, and your own trivia welcome... 1. Mungo Jerry- "In the Summertime" -What I like about this tune is it brings up all the fun things you celebrate about summertime. The tune continues to be one of the most popular songs of summer finding its way onto music playlists, movies, TV shows and commercials. Fun fact: You could argue that Mungo Jerry is a one-hit wonder band as this song is the only tune that charted on the U.S. music charts. 2. Beach Boys- "All Summer Long" -Seems you can't have a summer music playlist without a Beach Boys song or three, lol. A cheery sounding song about the good times of summer, especially spending quality time with your first girlfriend, which can bring back personal memories when you listen to it. Fun fact: This song was used in the '60s nostalgia movie American Graffiti (1973), about a group of teenagers enjoying their last summer together after graduating from high school. TRIVIA CHALLENGE ***Now for our trivia music challenge for those who like to play along. Let's see how many answers you know. See if you can guess this selection and the bonus... Name today's tune, artist or facts: 3. This #3 tune was recorded in "1967 by a group created for a NBC television show." It featured four guys playing the "fictional role of musicians" and getting into zany situations each week. Many of the instruments played on the tracks on their early records were by session musicians. The name of this summer tune is "Pleasant Valley Sunday" and was the favorite song of two of the band members. The band's name is the same as a "certain animal species" which reside in the jungles and forests in the Southern Hemisphere. -Do you know the name of this band? Bonus: A constant of summer is sunshine. Let's see if you know the answers to these sun songs or the artists who recorded them. 1. This "British supergroup" combined both "sun and love" in coming up with a title for this tune. This 1967 tune was the band's biggest hit reaching #5 on the U.S. charts. The band had such an impact on the music scene at that time 1966-68, "Clapton is God" graffiti started showing up around England. As they say, the "_______" always rises to the top! -Do you know the name of this British supergroup and the name of their sun-titled song? 2. This song was written by "The Beatles guitarist George Harrison" while in Eric Clapton's Garden. He was inspired by the "beautiful morning" which was a nice "sunny day." A real feel-good optimistic song and a perfect choice for a summer playlist. -Do you know the name of this Beatles song from their Abbey Road album? Ok, let's "grab a little sunshine" and solve these answers. If you're stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. Or as James Taylor would say "You've Got A Friend" if you need a helping hand. Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! I will return with a new edition soon. Hope you can wait till then, lol. Stay tuned... Source- Wikipedia & songfacts.com

As for the Mungo Jerry song, I didn't have women on my mind but I was checkin out the dudes. K, not a fan of the Beach Boys so I'z stumped. Oh chucks, I'll bet that group was the Monkeys. Cream, of course, but was the song Sunshine of your Love? I only remember one song GH wrote, it's one of my favorites but it's about a weeping guitar.

To answer the trivia question of the singing band that had a television show on NBC in 1967, I believe that the singing group is "The Monkees" since I remember seeing the reruns of the show on the Southern Command Network in Panama.

Trivia Challenge: The Monkees Bonuses: 1. Cream, "Sunshine of Your Love" (I think) 2. "Here Comes the Sun" Even as a kid, I always got annoyed at Mungo Jerry because of the lyrics, "If her daddy's rich, take her out for a meal/If her daddy's poor, then just do what you feel" - seems very classist and wrong.

Those answers make for a bright sunny day! Interesting observation. I was listening to Tom Petty today and noticed a song which also came across sexist. I think it is pretty common among Rock artists. Either their songs are praising the woman as the best thing that ever happened to them or treating them with little dignity. It must be the rock lifestyle which taints their viewpoint. Being on the road, drinking, parties and groupies probably contribute this this attitude. Thanks for dropping by and expressing your viewpoint!
