Seriously. You can't make this up. In what freaking HELLSCAPE am I living? After the US Supreme Court Dobbs decision (which overturned the right to abortion via Roe v Wade) now these creeps are voting against access to birth control. Condoms. The Pill. IUDs.
So not only does the GOP not want women to be able to terminate a pregnancy but they also don't want women to be able to PREVENT one. That isn't pro-life. That is pro-control of women's bodies and women themselves. You KNOW that these GOP representatives (and GOP senators) will vote against pre-natal care, post-natal care, medical insurance for the child when born, child care, food stamps, rent assistance, utility assistance, etc. NOPE! You and your baby are on your own! You shouldn't have spread your legs.
To that I say--okay fine. Then let's ban access to Viagra too. If getting pregnant is your own fault or God's will then so is your limp little thing. No blue pills for you! And, even if you can manage to rise to the occasion, good luck finding a woman with a brain to sleep with you.
This invasion of privacy by the government is absolutely outrageous. The government needs to stay the hell out of my medicine cabinet and my bed. It isn't their business.

Oh, thank you for writing this, and expressing what so many of us feel.
I fear our youth will be searching for ''illegal'' birth control and paying under the table for it...and if caught? Arrested, jail time, what? I don't think I even want to live here anymore, either.

Well, you and I have some different opinions on some of that, but we can agree to disagree, it's all good. I will have to say, that last comment, your carelessness need punished, not the child--don't forget that you wouldn't be making the child by yourself. If you are to be punished, as you say, so should the one who fathered it.

@MarieCoyle Oh I agree...the father of the child needs to pay the price. I am not ok with single mother concept of your world at all. DNA tests should be used to identify the child's parentage, and once parentage is established, the father's employer should become liable to pay for the child's upbringing deducting it from that man's pay. Killing a helpless fetus ..after knowing that it has life........... not ok with that. Especially when birth control methods around. I would feel like a murderess.

@vandana7 It is 100% wrong to say that women know their cycles and fertility periods. It can change for all sorts of reasons including illness, stress, and perimenopause.
and NO woman should be "punished" by being forced to bear and care for a child that they clearly did not want. What kind of life is that for the child? That sounds like punishment for BOTH mother and child.

Seriously such guys would take US to the ancient times !!
But I think may be even many of the ancient civilizations did not had such laws!
I do not know how and why certain people get such ideas when even ultra conservative nations like Saudi Arabia are beginning to moderate and open up !!
Very shocking

They sound so regressive. This comes as a shock when so much is being talked around in the world to uplift women, give them dignity and empower them. But seems that they are all out to ruin everything.. Definitely not for a progressive society. I hope they see enough protests to revert back on their decision.

It's all the more shocking that a supposedly Developed country like US has such regressive and mindless elements!

Yes it seems so.
By the way what exactly does the expression "out of the woodwork" means?
I am not familiar with it.

But how come? Does the new proposed law says something in this regard?
And how is your father's condition now?

UGH! First abortion, now birth control what the heck. And then they're gonna try to go after women that need help with their kids after they can't prevent the pregnancy and cant end it and take away all their assistance and insurance and everything. This is ridiculous and they are gonna wonder why there's so many people on welfare after this too like its your fault for taking away all the ways they would have not ended up in the situation. Yes let's totally go after the little blue pills and enhancers too. What the heck even?

Yes, we always saw US as a liberal and economically well off place.
It used to be a dream destination for many especially if a particular South Indian state.
Now people would hesitate to migrate there.
And such a mindset resonates with some religious groups in developing and under-developed countries who trample upon and advocate minimum women's rights.
I am afraid such measures in US would make such groups look even more justified!!

They will have us dressing like the Handmaiden's Tale, or the Amish. We will have to stay home and raise children and be ''readily available'' anytime.
Honestly, I like the idea of giving them all vasectomies as soon as they reach puberty, get a reversal later IF you prove you are responsible enough to be a parent and provider, since you are taking away all of women's rights. ( Yes, I know this isn't practical and won't happen, but, if women's bodies are going to be governed, so should men's!!) I'm so mad. This is wrong in every possible way.

Honestly, the world can do without another mouth to feed. Without population control, we cannot stop the havoc nature is causing us. So I am with you because of that. Control of women's body...I do not understand the concept. I am kinda...have babies if you can afford one. I am also for have babies when you can give her or him two parents till 18 or so. Now ..where women's right to abort comes there, I don't know. Affording includes not depending upon the child in future, and making it certain that the child is taught enough skills and given enough opportunities to earn for food clothing and shelter. So I am for birth control for the child's sake, and humanity's sake...not for the woman's sake. That is accidental.

The question is, who voted for those representatives in the first place. What was their script during the election. Looks like you need to keep an eye for the next election and remember these politicans.

I will vote for a Democrat again in 2024. I am in favor of planned parenthood and if a woman chooses it is her choice to have a baby or to avoid needless pregnancy. Although I was raised Catholic, and still am I am pro life, but pro choice if a woman has been raped or been made pregnant by incest or the birth of a baby would kill her. The Roe V Wade should not have been overturned and I am with Joe Biden in favor of women's choice as otherwise we have a GOP fascist state ruled by the force of the will of a few men at the top who hold all the cards in the SCOTUS as I do not agree with their decision the only choice I have as a voter is to vote Blue, Democrat and hope also that states can fight for the right for women to choose planned parenthood and make the decisions about birth, birth control, themselves without being penalized for it. :)

@NJChicaa - I agree with you completely, especially where you said, "You KNOW that these GOP representatives (and GOP senators) will vote against pre-natal care, post-natal care, medical insurance for the child when born, child care, food stamps, rent assistance, utility assistance, etc. NOPE! You and your baby are on your own! You shouldn't have spread your legs."
When I was a young woman just out of college 52 years ago, I packed up my clothes and dog and drove by myself from Missouri to Berkeley, California. In 1970, that was a huge culture shock, but I never regretted it. Today, I have written on Twitter (where I have over 6,000 followers) that EVERY single young woman who lives in a Red State today should pack up their stuff and move to a Blue State, where they will have more freedom and control over their bodies and their lives. Maybe if millions of men begin to realize that young women in their states are leaving, they will begin to change their minds about some of these issues.
Even though I am in my 70s now, I think it is time to STOP VOTING FOR SENIOR CITIZENS for any political office. We need to elect people who have some understanding of science, history, and our constitution. We need people who are more open to learning how to operate a 21st Century country with a young, modern population. We need to stop voting for idiots who have no compassion for anyone other than themselves.

@NJChicaa - I agree, and it is our responsibility to lead the younger women. I have four daughters and four granddaughters. All of them, except the youngest grandchild, are adults. They are horrified by what has happened in some parts of the U.S.
