I wonder who has so much money!

I open my email to check on the airfare mails that I´m waiting for. But I have to sort and chean the lots of mails where they offer me from shoes to hats. The amount of extremelly expensive electronic products is so big that I wonder how many people have the money to buy all those items. I have seen on TV those people who transform houses and turn a normal home into a palace. The kitchen has a "open concept" (I have learned that lately) and I alway look in awe. I cook wery cood dishes in a kitchen that is 1/10 of their size. And when the closets are finally shown, you can see the maybe 100 pairs of shoes the house owner had. I consider myself riche with 2 pairs od stechers for the winter, 2 pairs of flipflops and one "elegant" pair of shoes for vwedding and the like. I hope I´m not invited to any any longer as I doubt that I coul wear them without a big pain. How many pairs or shoes do you have, friends? How many jeans, leggings and pants? How many blouses and sweaters? Do you just have them or do you use them? This post is also about the climate change. We don´t need so many things. What do you think?

For decades, we have been brainwashed to believe that consumerism is good for us, good for the economy, and good for the world. Look where it's getting us...the planet is dying, people are in a never-ending cycle of debt because they just keep buying more stuff, and we're running out of resources. I think we all need to start learning to live within our means, to be happy and content with less, and to be more frugal in our everyday existence. Nobody needs 100 pairs of shoes. Nobody.

I would not want so many things as it gets more difficult to organize them.

@marlina I have slowly been downsizing over the past 10 years or so. I’m getting close to wanting to move in to a tiny house! Haha just kidding. That would be way too claustrophobic for me. But seriously, I have been slowly changing my habits to live more frugally.

I think everyone has different ideas of what rich is. What it means. I have three pairs of shoes. Tennis shoes, one pair of Birkenstocks, and a pair of nondescript sandals. I think that different people have different priorities and that means what they feel is richness and what is fine for some may be boring and mundane for others.

I have many Marga, I have many because I love shoes and I never throw shoes if not totally destroyed. That said I have shoes that are 40 years old and still beautiful. I am getting rid of all clothes I do not wear anymore... I did the same for clothes than I do for shoes.

I used to have lots of sandals. Summer has always been my time of the year. But a few years ago I discovered that my feet would not hold certain sandals and that my feet would hurt with some shoes. So I gave a lot away.

@LadyDuck I had to do that over 25 years ago after my back surgery. The back surgery told me not to wear shoes with ober 3 cm heels and thick ones. That was my first goodby to shoes. There have been others.

@marguicha I should get rid of most of my very high heels shoes. I used to wear those when we were invited at parties, but I am not going to wear them anymore.

I think I have about 6 pairs of shoes. But that is tennis shoes, mud boots, nice boots, and a pair of sandals.

I used to have more sandals. In summer I like colored clothes and I used to buy cheap sandals that went with them

@marlina They are comfortable. But they aren;t that attractive. Some of their tennis shoe style shoes are very nice though.

I only have 2 pairs of shoes and a limited number of jeans and tops. I wear the same ones over and over again. I can't get around; so I don't need a bunch of different clothes.

@marguicha I need to go through my clothes too. The ones I wore to work I haven't worn in 12 years. They don't fit anymore; and there are people who would benefit by them being donated.

@LindaOHio I will have to do that with many of my clothes. I used to recycle some things and turn into something else. But now I even gave my sewing machine to Tania.

some people think that owning a few pair of shoes is enough. I also think so. But I remember our former first lady in the Philippines Imelda Marcos thought otherwise. Owning thousands of pair of shoes showed her insatiable appetite for more shoes amidst the poverty of her people. i just wonder how many more thousands of shoes are forthcoming, since her son Marcos Jr has been elected president.

I've never been a person to want a lot of things. Shoes? I had to think about it. Two pairs of 'good' shoes, one black leather and one brown. Very, very basic style. No flip flops because I cannot wear them. Two pair of winter boots, one tall/knee length, and one shorter pair. Those are necessary for snow and winter days. Two pair of Skechers that are new, I got them for Mother's Day. I hadn't had any shoes like that in years, and I find them very comfortable. A pair of moccasins I love to wear to run around in, Minnetonkas. Two pair of bedroom or house slippers, one of them is nearly ready for burial. That's it. Seven pairs plus slippers. I don't have a lot of clothes since I am not a clothes horse by any means. I can't give you numbers of items but my closet isn't large. You are right. None of us needs so much stuff. Slowly I am downsizing more and more. I have no desire to fill my home up with things I neither need, nor want. My ex was obsessed with buying things. He still is, he thinks he deserves the finest things ever made and he buys them, whether he has the money or not. He seems to be happy by buying things. I wish he would have put that much effort in to relationships with his children, but things are more important to him. This is a good post, and you are so right--no one needs all of these things. People go into debt to buy more things to care for and find a place for and take care of and buy insurance for. So foolish.

I have too many clothes still but it is because I don´t throw anything away. For a long time I thought about recycling things as I have done with some of my garments (bluejeans turn into sturdy bags to go to the supermarket). But now I am not sewing anymore and gave my sweing machine to my olderst daughter. I have to sort my clothes to see who would want them to do what.
