Things kids say

July 25, 2022 10:32am CST
I was babysitting my nephew today just for a couple of hours. He finished earlier today, some school function later in the day so I had to pick him up at 1pm. His mother, my sister in law, specifically told me not to give him food as I would pick him up right after lunch and not to take him to any store , straight home and give him fruits around 3pm. Great, clear rules. He is 4 years old. He asked to go to a store maybe 3 times. I always said we can’t because I don’t have money (his mother told me to use this excuse). Then around 2pm he asked for chocolate. Said we don’t have any. Fruit time came. Asked him which ones he wants. He wanted a banana and an apple. Went to cut it for him and I guess he changed his mind in those 3 mins because when I came back he said : “So auntie I need to eat this fruit and grow up to be strong and smart like you right?’’, to which I replied yes and he proceeded to say : “Grow up and be like you and have no money for toys and no chocolate!!! I don’t want these fruits and I don’t want to be like you!” LOL LOL LOL Kid did a number on my self esteem and I can’t stop laughing about it.

Admirable logical thinking at his age!

Thank you. I will tell his mother you think so as well cuz she scolded him saying he was rude while I was more in the line with your thinking.

@Greencindere I don't think that a four-year-old child is "rude". A ridiculous thought!

How could a 4-year-old kid say like that as if he were already grown up.

Exactly my surprise! And when I asked him to repeat it (so I can make a video for the family) he added sass to it probably because I was laughing and he thought what he said was funny lol

Ahahah he is a clever kid. Did you succumb to buying him chocolates or did you stand your ground?

Oh my gosh, he was thinking. Very smart and cute. I did learn to stop saying I couldn't afford things to my kids and to tell them the real reason. That excuse backfired with them also.

Glad I’m not the only one with whom it backfired lol

He thought he could exploit you behind his mother's back. Children love having their own way.

Hahahah yes he believed me to be a ‘cool aunt’ cuz I always take him fun places on the weekends this was my first time babysitting during the week. He was disappointed.

Oh my gosh, that is hilarious!!! You know what they say, "Out of the mouths of babes!" To soothe your self-esteem, remember that you used the excuse about having no money only because your sister-in-law told you to, correct? So if you really did have money, and access to chocolate, you can tell him this story when he is older and just have a good laugh about it!

Yes you are correct lol. I have video proof and when he grows up will be something we can laugh about.

That's a classic, isn't it. He's perhaps heard someone else say something like that.
