Nekkid gardening

After I did the laundry and hung everything out to dry in the nice breeze I did some nekkid gardening. That's right: I pulled weeds and played in the dirt without putting on my garden gloves. Don't know why I didn't put them on, but once I started I didn't feel like putting them on. But I had a nice soak in the tub and my fingers are all clean... the rest of me, too.

If I don't wear leather gloves I'd end up with all kinds of stickers in my fingers, many desert plants have really harsh leaves that can cut the skin.

I find most leather garden gloves too big and clumsy (I have such lovely, delicate hands).

As long as your plants don't have razor edges that would cut you you're fine but here I'd rather have a pair of mens leather gloves that are heavy and clumsy than risk getting cut up or stuck by stickers.

Sounds like a wonderful and productive day. They say that putting your hands in soil is good for your immune system, and also your mental health.

Definitely good for my mental health to be able to play in the dirt.

I can't garden with gloves on, I don't know how anyone does. People have bought me several pairs of gloves over the years, but I just can't get on with them. I only ever wear gloves for handling nettles and sometimes brambles - but most gardening gloves are no use against brambles anyway.

I used to find garden gloves less than helpful too, but in the last maybe ten years I've been using a knitted cloth-kind that has the palm and fingers dipped in a nitrile coating. They allow for high dexterity while giving me a sure grip. They're even water repellent (to a degree).

You did not get attacked by what my kids call "pokeys"? We have "pokey" leaves here. I am not even sure which trees they come from.

It's good to be small again and play in mud

I don't really garden, but I do have some gardening gloves. I had use some while playing handbells. You have to have gloves when you play handbells and my uncle didn't have any gloves that would fit me so I used some gardening gloves. They really didn't fit either.
