I just learned there might be such a prize

"985 Universities" represent the top schools in my country and there are about 34-39 universities only. Last week my son was confirmed that he could go to such a good university. Just now I learned from other parents who come from other cities in my province. Their neighborhood offer them cash prize and the toppest is up to 100, 000 yuan which is about USD14,793. The lowest could be 1000 yuan. It depends on different cities. I found that the small cities offer big prize but big cities offer small amount. Now I doubt whether my city has such an offer. Perhaps I shall make a call when it is the working time. If they don't offer anything, that is OK. At least I have tried to call and it won't lose anything

Yes, you should make a call and find out. If other cities offer cash prize, there's a high chance that your city does the same.

I learned from a Shenzhen parent and they were offered 1000 yuan. It is better than Guangzhou. I made a call and they said they have never heard of such kind of prize

Congratulations to your son. Two weeks ago we also found out our son passed the entrance exam to one of the good universities here. In fact only 44 of them passed the exam for the Civil Engineering course out of thousands who took the exam. But no such monetary reward is being offered here for such. Maybe if there was, I was one of those who were able to avail it when I got into the top university in this country.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to find out... Maybe your son won some money, too. Good luck to him!

That's so disappointing that our neighborhood doesn't offer this. I hope one day my son can win the scholarship from the school

@youless Oh, that's too bad... I'm sure your son will get a scholarship. My daughter got several of them that helped her pay off her college loans.

Try to call who knows and it's weird big universities offer small whereas small offer big, sounds ridiculous

This prize is not offered by the university. It is offered by the local neighborhood.
