Gas Stove or Electric Stove?

Cooking can be a lot of fun when the stove works normally. It can be a lot of hassles when the electricity was off, and the gas was in low power. Actually, I prefer using electric stove to gas stove. In our house, we have a gas stove as our main stove. When the gas is finished, we turn to using a second stove using electricity. There is a good electricity-powered stove but it's very expensive and consumes lots of electricity power. When comparing to the gas stove, it is much lower in cost. So, we rely on our gas stove for cooking lots of food. Which stove do you use to cook your meal, and why? Photo from

I haven't had a gas stove in almost 30 years. Both work fine for cooking. (I never tried to compare the costs of using a gas stove over an electric stove.)

For me it is important to compare the cost of using the stoves either gas or electric. I use 3-kg gas stove, it can last for 15 days.

@yanzalong Most of our appliances now are electric. The only gas we use is for the water heater and for the heat during the Winter. (During the Summer, our gas bill is always $25... just the water heater running. During the Winter, when the water heater and the heat in the house are on, we spend around $150 a month on gas. Our electric bill is always just under $100.)

@DaddyEvil I remember when I stayed at Jerome House in London. The stoves are all electric. That was in 1994 -- a long time ago.

We have an electric stove and no it doesn’t use a lot of power that comes down to its age as newer types come out they do come more energy saving. Most houses in the US do not use gas stoves but cause if coast extra money for gas or a gas line to be place in the house. The upside for gas stove is do the power go out you cook bad side is if you don’t turn the pilot off all the way and gas leaked into your house or the gas tubing isn’t connect correctly it can cause gas leaks which will dangerous to health as well as safety it doesn’t take much to start a fire.

You are right. The only problem is that the price of electric stoves are far more expensives.

@ShyBear88 For me, it's still too much. My salary won't be enough to cover all those electricity use.

@yanzalong not really maybe where you live an electric stove might be expensive but it’s like $100 to buy one here. Yeah there are more expensive one they have out there. I’ve never had to buy a stove but I do watch the prices. As for where it’s our in my electric bill it’s nothing. My lights to be and work coast more then the use of my stove. $150 total is my electric bill split that up into all the electric in the house. We have 3 bedrooms, 2 ceiling fan, an AC running for roughly 6 months maybe 4 months out of the year that we are currently using, the bathroom lights, the wash (both water and electric), drying, dishwasher (using electric and water), oven/stove together, microwave, refrigerator (always on), second refrigerator (always on), 3 computer, 2 cell phones and 3 iPods. Which one of these things is use the most the AC and refrigerator not my stove!

Well the house I live in now has an electric stove. Since gas prices is continuing to rise I'd rather have electric one as at least I only have to pay one bill.

The problem wirh me is that I should collect more money to buy electric stove. I have one portable electric stove. When we use it, it takes longer time. It is only suitable for reheating.

@flapiz Probably, I will no longer use the gas stove when ww have a new electric stove. We will use the gas for emergency only.

I do not like to cook using an electric stove, mine is a gas stove and it is "natural gas", I cannot run out of gas.

I use gas stoves and they are okay. I don't see the need to change.

I prefer gas stoves as well because they are cheaper and more convenient for me. But I would like to try the electric stove too sometime in the future.

Gas stoves are more cost-effective than you have to spend more if you use an electric stove.

I don't cook but we have both at home. For food that requires slow cooking, the gas stove is being used.

We have always had gas and much prefer it. We used to buy bottled gas but where we are now it is 'natural gas' and piped throughout the metropolitan area.

Nothing better than gas, electricity stoves are not what I consider.

We had a gas stove when I was a kid, and my mom had to light the pilot light every time with a match. I prefer an electric stove, but I don't like how long it takes to cool down.

We don't use elective stoves at all as they consume lots of electricity and are more costly to use than the given stoves.
