Recurrent cough at night in a child - how to help?

My son, after his last cold, cannot get over his recurring cough at night. Exactly it looks like a 20-minute cough attack, then it suddenly passes and during the day it is ok. My son was examined by a doctor, he has no rhinitis, auscultation is ok. I have already used syrups, vitamins, inhalations, sprays and nothing helps. Maybe you have an idea?

Why don't you try keeping him warm? Make sure he wears warm clothes and takes some warm drinks lemon water , hot chocolate drink or tea

Thanks for the advice, although I've already tried heating, I even smear it with a warming ointment with the addition of eucalyptus to make it easier for him to breathe, but it also doesn't work. However, I will try lemon water because I have completely forgotten about it. They get used to giving it when it's winter at my place.

Freshly grated ginger tea. I hope he feels better very soon. May your son recovers and regains back his strength.

@Gguusia You can add anything to the ginger tea, such as honey and/or fresh lemon juice. Gargle Diflamm with Iodin (or any anti-bacterial gargle. Get an herbal cough syrup to take for decongestion (relief). Freshly grated ginger tea is very soothing.

Thank you very much for this idea, I heard about it for the first time, but it seems to be a good solution.

@everwonderwhy Thank you very much. I wonder why the doctor did not give me such good advice. Ah, pity words for some doctors.

I have 3 kids and have tried everything under the sun for their coughs and the only thing that has ever worked for them has been a mixture of honey, lemon juice (fresh is best), and a bit of whisky. Now, obviously our objective is not to get the kids drunk, that happens as adults, but just a touch here and there mixed with the honey and lemon kicks their cough almost immediately. I just mix it as needed and they take 2 tablespoons and they are good as new.

Thanks a lot for the advice and this recipe. Then I have to buy whiskey because I don't drink, but I'll buy it and try to serve it.

Maybe he's just doing it to get your attention.

I think not, because when he coughs, you can see that he is still half asleep, often in the morning he does not remember that he had a cough at night.

Honey and lemon juice mixed half and half works good for a cough.

Thank you very much for the advice, I just forgot about that, because I usually give my children water with honey and lemon when it's winter here. But now I will also give you how warm it is.

Don't let him drink cold water. Since he has medicine his cough would soon subside. Give him fruits.

Thanks again for your help. Of course, I'll make sure he doesn't drink anything cold.
