Rehabilitating My Ankle

So it's been more than a week since that fateful ankle sprain. After a week of injury I have started to fully weight bear on it and found it quite a challenge as I have gotten used to limping and the pain that I forgot how to walk properly. It started causing problem with my good ankle. And sometimes when I walk I get a stabbing pain on my injured heel.
It has definitely improved a lot considering how painful it was in the past few days. So my goal now is to walk 10,000 steps a day. As that is my baseline. If not, I fear that it may not regain its normal strength. I have been doing ankle exercises too. Any tips for me?

IMO you have to take it easy on it, you dont want the damage to be permanent but of course the doctor has the best advice.
Did heels have smething to do with sprain? Take care now.

This is the biggest problem. I am not able to go to the doctor as I have no health insurance until I get the visa and I am tight on cash. But I did take it easy for a week. I think the stabby pain on the heel is related to the sprain. It is not consistent it sometimes happen when I step the wrong way. I am putting rest in between my walks.

I'm really sad to hear this. I wish you quick recovery for your ankle. I believe you move slowly in order to recover more quickly. I believe that if you press for it, you risk further damaging it. Unless it is suggested by your Physical Therapist then I would not oppose to it anymore. I think when you acquire an injury you can recover faster if you go slow at first until when you have reached the point that you fully recovered from that then you can return to your normal pace again.

@flapiz Well, I don't suggest that you never utilize it. Just begin cautiously and slowly while the pain is still present. Exercise is important, but you should always start slowly and with caution. I believe that if you keep up with those slow workouts, over time you can gradually increase their intensity until you can perform them without experiencing any pain. Pain serves as a reminder of your limits until the point at which you can push past them.

I was in semi bed rest last week as it was too painful to weight bear. This week has been better. Just minor stabby pains at times. I have not seen a physio due to financial constraints but I have read a lot online and they did say failure to use it may cause ankle instability which is a permanent thing. I am now just trying to balance activity and rest as to not overdo it.

Start walking slowly. If it gets too painful, stop and rest.

Here's a great tip for you: stop getting hurt! LOL
Seriously, though, I'm glad to hear you are making progress on your recovery. Just don't overdue it and hurt yourself again!

I wouldn't push it too far to start with, as you need to build strength up again, and also be careful to walk on even surfaces and avoid bumpy ground in case you twist it again. But yes you will need to 're-learn' to walk evenly using both legs so as not to cause other problems.

I am trying to just walk on even surfaces as much as I can, my boyfriend lives up a hill so sometimes I just try to find the flattest I can find. It is a struggle to relearn to walk. My mind is scared to hurt the injured leg. I have to remind myself from time to time.

The best advice is what your physiotherapist must have suggested, just don't push yourself too much give your body time to heal itself. Take care
