You can bank on it

Our town's library is in what used to be a bank. It has a used book shop in back, a meeting room, the room with the stacks and the pictured room . . .the vault.
In the vault are many historic treasures of our town. Also there is a pull down staircase, seen in this picture. There is a note requesting you stay off those steps and prohibiting climbing. In fact it is not usually pulled down but was for the celebration.
If you were to go up those steps, you would find a "watch room". It does not have watches but was a place for the bank security guard to watch for bad characters coming to the bank.
There is a port or small window which allowed a gun to be trained on such "guests".
Did anyone ever get shot? I have not heard.
You can bank on the idea that reading is worth a fortune.

There are also watermarks on one of the walls of how high the flood waters got in 1951.

He is doing fine, we think. He is going to have to continue the IV antibiotics due to a schedule issue with the infectious disease doctor. He will continue until the 9th. It kind of leaves us tied to our local environment because he has daily treatments.

That must be a really long time when the bank must have existed there as per the picture.

The library board is doing a good job. Not many towns of 450 people have such a nice library. It is not huge, but it is ours.

@GardenGerty I'm pretty sure that we have more people and ours isn't that nice. It's how I ended up with as many books as I own lol

Yes. I agree with that. While reading this, I'm missing my old profession. I used to be a Librarian.

What do you do now? At one time I wanted to be a librarian and helped in the school libraries.

@GardenGerty Yes. I only stopped of being a librarian because of my previous employer.

I wonder how many banks had this feature, and how many people knew of it.

That is a really good question. You never see anything quite like it in the old western movies.

The librarian should position herself once in a while in the watch room

I think we were taken up the steps once when we were visiting. Our realtor that sold us our house is on the library board. We actually just visited the town originally to see the library.
