The Steps Per Day Challenge

United States
August 3, 2022 1:40pm CST
I have been trying to walk 10,000 steps a day for the longest time. I wear a pedometer every day which counts my steps. At this point, I am thrilled if I make it to 8,000 steps per day but often make it to between 6,000 and 7,000 steps per day. I decided that because I think it will help motivate me if someone holds me accountable, I am going to try to post my steps on myLot every day...or as many days as I can. My goal is a minimum of 8,000 steps per day. Would you like to join me in my steps per-day challenge?

I wish you the best of luck. Start with a lower goal and work on passing it. 10,0000 is a bit ambitious.

@Kouponkaren Yeah. I also feel it is holy unrealistic, unless you're constantly on the move. Between wheelchair pushes and actual steps, I do roughly 6,000/ day. The only way I'd make 10,000/day is if I walked on a treadmill for an hour a day.

@kaylachan They say for good health, everyone should be walking 10,000 steps per day, and if you want to lose weight, it should be 12,000 - 15,000 steps per day. that is a LOT of walking!

@kaylachan I did notice that on the days I go to the gym and use the treadmill I can ht the 8,000 steps much more easily.

I wish you all the luck. I have an Apple Watch that counts my steps but I hardly use it.

@toniganzon My dog will enjoy that. I am not so sure about me. I guess it depends on where we walk. I will try to find some pretty spots to take her to.

@toniganzon Thanks...I will need it. I used to be able to do it when I was a single mom of 3 kids and had a dog. Now it's just me and my husband, and a different dog. I do walk her 3 times per day. Guess I had better make those walks longer?

@marlina, Thanks, me too. It's okay if you can't participate. It will be interesting to see if I can get to 10,000 steps on a regular basis.

I usually make it to 10000 at least. But not there yet today.

@wolfgirl569 How do you get that many? I am struggling to get there. But by starting with a goal of 8.000 a day, I am hoping to just keep increasing until I am hitting 10,000 daily.

@Kouponkaren I walk at least a half hour in the mornings. Then each hour I try to add at least 1000 steps until I am there. I often miss it on Tuesdays and Fridays. But the rest I get there.

@wolfgirl569 Good for you. I walk 100 steps per minute so your half-hour walk would only get me 3,000 steps.

Luckily living near the town centre, I usually make a couple of trips, to the shops, instead of one big one. That keeps my step count up, especially as I walk the scenic route!

@Kouponkaren The other thing I do is cycle to Uxbridge and use different shops. Using the scenic route I can do double the mileage of the direct route. Good bit of exercise and cardio workout.

@Kouponkaren The Earl lost a leg at Waterloo, unlike General Sickles he didn't visit his detached limb at a museum!

@Ronrybs Yes, they say walking to do shopping is much better for the body than driving a car. I live too far away to walk but when shopping, I do try to park far away from the door of the store to force myself to get more steps in.

I always find it helps me to make my goals public. As you say, it keeps you accountable. Good luck.

@valmnz Thanks. I am hoping it helps me get to those 10,000 steps daily before too long. No matter what, I know it will help me increase what I am currently walking.
