fashion of 1934 movie trailer

This is an original trailer for Fashion of 1934, which of course came out in 1934. It's a fashion scam, but I can't comprehend what the scam is. William Powell is putting on a show in Paris and attempts to include a Duchess, whom he swats on her derrière, quite loudly with no plausible logic behind the act that I can conceive, with the exception perhaps of gaining her attention. This was surprising, for a man (or a woman) would draw a "straight to jail" card for committing an identical offense today. It was amusing to watch the fashions of this time period, and to discover a young Bette Davis I hardly recognized. Have you ever seen this movie or trailer? The image is a woman fashionably dressed in the 1930's. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:GR_Lee,_1937.jpg

No, that's not the type of movie I would watch. I do recognize fashions from early years because mom and dad would go out once in a while when they were newly married and she had "fashionable" clothing back then. (Mom made her own clothes from pictures she saw in magazines. She still made her own clothes almost up until she passed away.)

@misunderstood_zombie I think she did trial and error sewing. I know she'd take scrap fabric and work with it for a while and then hold it up and see if it looked right. If it did, fine. If it didn't, she'd undo what she'd done and try something else until it did look like she wanted it to look. Mom only had 16 kids she could practice on, so got really good at making clothes for us. (I was next-to-the-youngest and she was still doing that trial and error sewing when I was a kid.)

@DaddyEvil Only 16, why that's nothing. I had four. Wow, I cannot believe she had so many children. Were some of them step-children? I guess with that many kids, sewing would be much quicker way to learn.

Wow, that's pretty impressive that she could make her own clothes by looking at pictures. I once sewed a great deal for my kids, but I had to have a pattern and instructions for the whole thing.

It's fun to see how they talked and dressed so long ago. How they are so different from us yet just the same.

This is a movie that depicts the start of "The Folies Bergeres" in Paris, not the fashion show business.

@misunderstood_zombie Yes I have been at "Les Folies Bergères" in Paris, it is a night club. I have seen the French version of the movie who was released in 1935.

He's putting on a fashion show so I guess that is why I thought this. Have you seen it?

The movie that you mentioned I have never heard of since it is before my time and these kinds of movies are probably shown on Turner Classic Movies.

The movie is before my time also. I just like looking at old movie trailers. This one is 88 years old and it's nice to glimpse from that time period.

@misunderstood_zombie Movies in the classic era did not swear and the characters dressed decently.

@Deepizzaguy Yeah, this is true, but women were hit on their bottoms for no reason.

I like them also, but it's also nice when they colorize them since it makes them more real.

No, I haven't. They're fashionable too in the 19th century. Imagine those fur coats and glossy hats. It must be interesting to back in time and reminisce the fashion then

I probably have watched this movie when I was a kid. I watched so many of these films Rhonda. I enjoyed the fashions so very much. It is my favorite era for clothes..the 30s.

I actually love old black and white movies, but I've never seen that one. I tend to focus more on the dramas, like the 1940s Joan Crawford movies and stuff like that. But you're right, there's all sort of things men got away with in the "good old days."
