Steps Per Day Challenge Weds. 8/3

United States
August 4, 2022 9:26am CST
Goal: 8,000 Steps Actual Steps Walked: 8,810 My plan to be held accountable by sharing my step count with my myLot friends is working so far. I was at about 5,800 and had to go to the grocery store last night. Knowing I needed more steps, I brought the dog along and took her for a short walk to get more steps in. Then I went into the grocery store and forced myself to walk the perimeter of the inside of the store to get more steps in. After I was done shopping, I still had 181 steps to go to hit my goal of 8,000, so I walked one lap around the small parking lot at the store. The cart guy probably thought I was crazy...and so did my dog! Ha ha. But it worked and got me so motivated that I walked out in my driveway for a few more minutes when I got home. I didn't want to embarrass myself with all of you who are interested in following my Steps per Day Challenge. If you are keeping track, how many steps did you walk yesterday?

@Kouponkaren Usually I do a long 30 to 45 minute walk in the mornings. Then aim for a thousand each hour for a few hours after. This morning instead of my walk I got things back in the shed. That was a lot of walking back and forth so I still got my steps in.

@wolfgirl569 I asked you this question on the original post and just saw that you walk 30 minutes first thing in the morning. That's a good way to start the day off. I have a storage unit for my eBay stuff and I did notice when I go there and walk back and forth with things to put in or take out, I can get a lot of steps in. I am going there tomorrow.

That's a great way to reach your goal and 8,000 steps sounds like a lot to me. I know "they" say you're supposed to get 10,000 a day but that's totally unreachable for me. Hope you reach your daily goal

Thanks. How many steps a day do you usually walk? Are you keeping track? I used to be able to walk 10,000 steps per day when we lived somewhere else and I was working at a preschool with lots of long hallways. But now I work from home and it's much harder for me to get in 10,000 steps. Walking the dog helps though.

@Kouponkaren I"m out of shape and my knees are shot so walking any distance is difficult for me, I get the majority of my steps inside, try to get up frequently and move. I've managed to get myself up to 3,000 which I know isn't much. The doctor wants me to increase my daily activity even if it's just walking. That's what I'm working on and hoping to be able to show him I'm doing better when I go for my next appt in Oct.

@Marilynda1225 @Marilunda1225 Well you should join me in this challenge then. Each day if we just try to walk a few steps more than the day before, we will be doing better and can encourage each other. When I got my pedometer, the booklet said 3,000 steps per day is what the average American walks. My husband has bad knees as well and walking is painful for him. He sits down and rests a lot.

@Kouponkaren Of course because that's a lot of walking and that's how I understood it. The only way to reach it is having accumulated short walks.

@toniganzon The total was from a lot of shorter walks, not one big one. I try to build in 3 to 5-minute walks around the house throughout the day, and then 1 long one every day with my dog.

That is good. I don't even think I do 8000 steps a week

@Metsrock69 Aw, I bet you do. Do you wear a pedometer or Fitbit to keep track?

That's how we do it! I also make a point to use the stairs instead of an escalator

@Kouponkaren Ah yes, going up is much harder! Sometimes my knee acts up as I make my way downstairs.

@Ronrybs I can go down the stairs fine but going up them bothers my asthma and it's just not worth it to me.

@Kouponkaren I have never counted steps but you really have moved up on yours. Do you have a goal in mind as to how much steps you want to get? I just walk to get exercise and also exercise online. Yes, as a matter of fact I had to go out yesterday and walked.

@Kouponkaren Do you have a watch or something that counts your steps? I just walk when I am outside. I bet it does take a lot of effort but you should be very proud of yourself what you have accomplished and the goal you want to reach.

@Hannihar Yes, I want to boost my number of steps to 10,000 every day. My previous goal was 7,000 - 8,000 a day, but really 10,000 is my ultimate goal so I am at 8,000 now and will soon try for 8,500 a day and keep moving it up. It takes a lot of effort to keep reminding myself to get up and get those steps in every day.

@RebeccasFarm Thank you. Now I just have to keep it up. We will see how things go. If I can make it to 10,000 on a regular basis, I will have all of you to thank!

I am a hiker and yesterday was trail maintenance, then I had errands. So, my step count was over 16,000. But some days I barely make 5,000. I don't worry about that if I paddle or cycle on those days, I'm trying to make sure I do some fun exercise every day. And I'm not succeeding at that yet.

@Kouponkaren it depends on the terrain whether I get sore. Yesterday had no real hills. Activity has to be fun for me

Ha ha, I don't find most exercise "fun" but good for you if you can. 16,000 steps is a LOT. The only time I have ever done that many is when we travel and I have gone on foot exploring new cities. I have to come home and soak my feet in a tub of warm water though. They do get sore.

Great to know that. That will be good. As per seeing in one of the videos in YouTube it said that you're healthy if you can maintain 10000 steps a day.

@luisga814 Yes, the 10,000 steps per day amount is what everyone should be walking to be in good health. It is a lot harder to do than most people think though. I think it is easier to do if someone lives in town or a city and can walk to the grocery stores, and do errands. I love out in the country and have to drive to do my shopping and errands.

@Kouponkaren Yes. We're doing that as much as we can. If we've wanted to buy something in the nearby store, we just walk. At least even if we don't meet the 10000 steps, at least we've walk.
