Question of the Day: Do you use Senior Discounts?
If you're a senior, do you mention it to get discounts? What kinds of things do you receive discounts on?
To answer my own question, I have used senior discounts on going to movie theatres, sight-seeing attractions, gift shops, motels (AARP), Shop-Rite groceries (discount day), and Duncan Donuts.
Any other discounts I'm missing out on that you can add?

My husband turned 60 last year. He was eligible to getting a Senior discount for a one year subscription to our local newspaper which we took advantage of.

Oh, that's a cool perk! Joining AARP can also get you discounts on restaurants like Carrabba's Italian Grill, Outback Steakhouse, Bonefish Grill and Denny's. Other eateries like Perkins, IHOP and McDonalds have special menus for older adults (starting at 55).
Other senior perks include Cruise Lines, car rentals, and some transportation like Amtrack and Greyhound bus.
Who knew there were so many deals out there for us older adults!

@dgobucks226 A lot of the discounts are quite well known but not all. We get discounts on medications, car and drivers licences, council rates, public transport - they are the main ones I guess.

@dgobucks226 Once we get to 80, we have to have a driving test and yearly medical checks. I think that's the story. I haven't quite got there yet.

@JudyEv Some good ones there! I like the idea of a senior rate for driver's licenses. No such thing here. In fact, I bet they would prefer some older seniors don't drive at all

Good deal! I forgot about haircut specials for seniors. AARP is a very good membership. They offer quite a few good deals.
Joining AARP can also get you discounts on restaurants like Carrabba's Italian Grill, Outback Steakhouse, Bonefish Grill and Denny's.
Other senior perks include Cruise Lines, car rentals, and some transportation like Amtrack and Greyhound bus.
Kohl's clothing store offers a senior discount day on Wednesdays. Michael's arts and crafts has one on Tuesdays.
Consumer Cellular phone plan, eye places like LensCrafters, and Hearing USA also have discount senior plans.

You young whipper snapper you! Well they do start some older adult discounts at age 55 so in a few years you can take advantage.
Eateries like Perkins, IHOP and McDonalds have special menus for older adults (starting at 55). So, a reduced price is not bad!
You can also join AARP at 50. Joining AARP can also get you discounts on restaurants like Carrabba's Italian Grill, Outback Steakhouse, Bonefish Grill and Denny's.

@dgobucks226 I will have to be on the lookout and start making preparations. lol. As for AARP I would never join that organization. AMAC is the one I would be a member of.

If I went to any of these places I would try to get the senior discount if it were offered. We order food delivered so I don't get those. I think that zoos, museums and such offer senior discounts. I would ask anywhere I went really.

@dgobucks226 ........Those discount days sound interesting for people who go shopping. I do mine online. I think most of these you mention are for in-house eating. I have mine delivered. If I was traveling a lot I would become a member of AARP. If do ever decide to travel I would probably check into discounts with Amtrak. Thank you for your information.

Never hurts to ask. If you don't you may be passing up on some savings. I recently played golf and got a senior discount of $6
Yes, attractions usually offer some type of discounts to seniors!
Other kinds of discounts offered are:

@dgobucks226 With some cards you could get those discounts even if not a senior in your country. I remember we had the AAA card and we had discount on car rentals, museums, theaters.
Eyeglasses and haring aids are covered by our National Healthcare System, no matter our age.

@dgobucks226 We do not pay a higher premium because hearing and eyes are fully covered by the basic (MANDATORY) health insurance that we have here in Switzerland. Only dentist works are not covered, unless it is an accident. That means, if you fall and break your teeth, they cover.

@LadyDuck Yes, very true. The AAA card is a great alternative if you not of senior age. I've used it myself.
We can get additional coverage on eye and hearing, but you will pay a higher premium for those extras. So, no additional premiums for those coverages. That's great!

I'm not, quite, old enough to get a senior discount... But most places where I live don't offer it anyway. (I'm entitled to a AAA discount but places here don't give that, either. *shrug*)

What a bummer! When you do reach 50 AARP is an organization membership where many discounts are offered on the same things given to seniors. Maybe your area will offer them by then.
Thanks for your input!
