One of my grandsons is a teenager. He is always up to something. He has recently been cutting wires and I just shake my head cause I can not figure out why. He will destroy a pairs of cheap headphones by cutting the wires with his nail clippers. Then he leaves the pieces all over the place. I don't know where he is getting the headphones from. He does not have a job or money. These are the cheap headphones but still, what is the point of cutting them up. They can't be used after that. I hope he is not shoplifting them from our local stores or stealing them from his friends. Do any of you have any idea what this kid is up to? I have been told he might be using the wires to light a crack pipe. Not sure how much I believe that but what the hell is he up to?

In some places, the kids are using the exposed wires to vape either nicotine or cannibis from cartridges without having to use a vape pen.
I'm not sure if that's the case there but it's pretty common in some places. Schools have issued warnings to alert parents of the practice.
You may want to investigate into this.

Have you tried asking? He may resist, but if you keep your cool he might just tell you. As long as you don't approachch the situation like you'r judge jury and excunitionor.

It could be a sensory thing. It may just feel "good" to exert that little bit of strength and effort to destroy something. You can find those really cheap ear buds laying around almost anywhere. People do not look for them if they lose them, etc.

No idea at all. My son is a teenager but I have never seen such same behavior. He has never destroyed things intentionally and he tries to be careful with whatever he has. And he has tons of toys and gadgets. He knows the value of money and how. much each of his gadget costs. My son has never stolen a thing.
