Maybe those of you who keep an eye out on international news, already know what I mentioned in the title. And those don't, let me tell you what it is. It is nothing but an award announced by the 'dictator' Vladimir Putin, to revive the shrinking Russian population. The population of Russia is purportedly on a decline since WWII and never really taken any significant upturn. Its so bizarre to think that its neighboring nation (China) has the largest population in the world. So, basically, this award would be given to an woman who bears ten or more children, offering financial incentives as well as social recognition to her, by conferring the honorary "Mother Heroine" title. During Stalin era, this award was said to be given to 400000 citizens, so Putin is actually resurrecting this award. So, is Russia going for a post-war reconstruction of its population after losing many lives in the battle? Whatever it might be, I found this news amusing being from a country where population 'control' is one of the top agendas of every government For details of the award

That seems a bit weird really. I can't imagine too many wanting to have ten children, even for some award.

@Sojourn Why not? If they need to increase their population they could.

@LadyDuck Do you mean Russia would give the ostracized and tortured Chinese minority communities Russian citizenship.

Russia's population peaked in the early 1990s with about 148 million people in the country. Today, Russia's population is 144 million, not a big difference. Not all countries are interested in population control. Italy is also asking to the women to have more than only one child.

@Sojourn Most European countries have a decreased population, because women only have one, at most 2 kids in our days. We let immigrants come because we need nurses and workers.

Ok, being one of the largest democracies , I am really alien to the initiative of population boosting, that's why I posted this news

Yeah, that's brilliant, cuz Russian life is just so easy...the world is overpopulated and can't support the population they have now.

Why do you say that Russian life is so easy? And do you mean that Russia should give citizenship to more foreigners or even to refugees?

At one time it wasn’t unusual for a woman to have ten children but in this day and age few women women would consider it.

@RubyHawk Russia is not middle east where women has no powers, its more like a European /Western nation and women's rights groups might protest this

Putin better make special allowances for those 10 children, so that the women don't face any difficulty raising them

@Sojourn I shared this news with a friend. We both had a laugh. Actually, in the old days when I was a kid, families having 8-10 children were not rare.

Oh gosh wow that seems so strange to me. I hope it is a large amount of money they are given as an incentive since it’s so costly to raise a large family. I have 1 stepson and 3 kids. That’s enough for me!

It would cost a lot even in Russia to raise that many children. I could not see many people wanting that many children.

Russia already made a big mistake when they were Soviets and forced many people to go live int he countries they occupied, When freedom came for those countries the Russians no longer wanted to return to their country,

I learned from a Christian conservative network I subscribe to, based on his research and analysis, V. Putin is a staunch family-oriented leader. He believes in the protection of the family unit to educate children and parents the importance of keeping the traditional values of parents are the one and only and main educators and carers of their children and autonomy of the family unit. Sounds good and ideal, in my opinion.

@Sojourn In Western influence culture, no. I still have friends who have large families and are doing well-- morally, spiritually, sufficiently and independently. They are hard working and provide for their own families with little to do with government handouts. If governments help, these families gladly accept as blessings and provision. Not as a demand for entitlements.

Will a modern woman really would be willing bear so many children. Not to mention, the care giving and upbringing toils and woes.

But who would want to bear 10 children in order to get a prize or even social recognition? That would be a high price to pay for such a strange award!

I don't know, but Putin better make some special arrangements for the 10 children so that the parents don't run into any financial difficulties raising those children.

Yes, that's obvious, but now it is to see how Russian women takes this. Moreover, isn't it dangerous for a woman who is a bit weaker to get that many childbirths.

It is a bit funny Russian's problem is about their declining population when all the rest of the world have the rapidly increasing population problem.
