I have two Tik Tok's.
One is for my crafting and one is me dragging myself and kids out of generational poverty.
I just landed a job that is a HUGE change for me.
I was cleaning homes and delivering food and now I drive a cement mixer truck. We work 40-55 hours a week normally and sometimes more. The pay rate is $21.70/hr for the first 40 hours and then I get 32.55/hr for overtime.
One of my coworkers was talking about how we will end up with $2,000 checks during our busy season.
This is life changing money for us. It is going to get us off welfare and back on our feet.
We also get paid holidays and we don't work those holidays.

This news really makes me smile. I'm delighted for you and your children. About 23 years ago my husband suddenly was given the opportunity to get a decent job. Boy did that change our lives! Below the poverty belt and then within a year above it. He was forty five before he got that chance. I'd been working with seniors to keep us afloat before then. We had to move clear across the state but it was worth it.

Once my youngest leaves home my income will significantly jump again. I just turned down a $100,000 a year job because it meant being in a truck OTR and I can't do that with kids at home. I can only see the pay increasing, not decreasing in the trucking industry.
I'm glad your family was able to escape poverty. It's very hard to do.

@fatragu My husband has a master's degree. He also happens to be blind. He ended up calling the governor's office and complaining before he got decent work. He'd called about a job that he knew he was qualified for. The person hiring said he wouldn't have hired my husband anyway. Hubby said why not?? Answer: you don't have a driver's license and all the social workers must have one. That's when hubby called the governor.

@sallypup Is your husband involved with the National Federation for the Blind? My mom has been involved with the Nebraska Federation for the Blind for years and there might be one in your area if you aren't already working with them. They help with accessibility.

It started out as an app called Musically where people would do dances and sing to songs. Now it has turned into a social media platform with all different niches. Food, books, crafting, authors, moms, canning (I don't recommend that one), gardening, budgeting, finances, cars, basically anything you can think of.
I've learned a lot off of it. One of my channels is about getting out of poverty and my goal is to help at least one other person.
