Dragon flies in the garden. Why do they come?

During my garden stroll this morning I saw this dragon fly resting on a silly looking marigold bud As some of you know due to heavy rain our seasonal flowers have been a disaster and a few marigold plants are still there but look rickety.
I nudged the dragon fly a bit when it spreads its wings and sat on another almost dead twig. Obviously they are not interested in nectar as butterflies are.
Why do they visit gardens?

This dragon fly that sat on that marigold bud is so tiny that I doubt if it was there searching for insects - just saying.

Thank you but do they get attracted for getting their prey?

There must be the various plants they are attracted to. They are lovely dragonflies.

I can understand going for nectar but I know they do not and to go for insects they have such a small mouth!!

It's not raining here but I don't want too much of rain. I think they are just behind the fragrance of flowers
