On being Grinch

People all over the world loves the Ber months, September to December.
And I think for one reason: Christmas!
The end quarter of the year tends to be the merriest, especially in my country where we have the longest Christmas celebration as compared to other countries.
I am no extremist who hates Christmas with passion. I truly love Christmas, I truly do.
But sometimes there's just a reason to be a Grinch when yuletide season comes.
1. High cholesterol Christmas food. Basically abundant food promotes ill health. I can actually feel my arteries constricting just imagining slabs of ham and turkey in the Christmas table.
2. In my country: traffic. Nuff said.
3. Hanging around with people you don't like. Since it's Christmas, you are "forced" to be nice. Hahaha

My Christmas has changed a LOT in the past few years. I used to have tons of fun with my mom shopping and planning for Christmas, Mom's gone, and Christmas is a lot more reserved. With Mom being gone I don't cook as much for the two huge dinners (Christmas and Thanksgiving). My neighbor and I are setting up our plans for Thanksgiving dinner already. We both are without family so it's depending on each other for the support and warmth for the holiday season.
I have to thank you; you woke some memories for me. I have been struggling to remember things and it's been a real struggle to say the least. I've been trying to remember when I moved into the apartment, and with your post I have finally remembered that I have been here almost a year. Thank you!!! You won't ever realize how grateful I am for the help triggering the memories!!!
Anyhow, I am more giving now and less looking for the gifts and such during the holiday season. I am going to be doing a Santa and Mrs. Clause for the local charity thrift shop. I am hoping that they will raffle it off and make a group of money for their cause. I go there quite often when I'm looking for things to augment the bears and when I am looking for faux fur coats for recycling into bears. When you're a child you don't subscribe to the premise of "It's better to give than receive". Now, I am happier giving than receiving.
I will say that I don't stay around people I don't like. I tend to slip and let loose and tell those people what I think. Plus, the people that I don't like tend to try to borrow money from me, and they never pay me back. These are the people that blow their money by buying prepared food from the deli across the street rather than save money and buy food to prepare from the grocery store. It's like $5.00 for a hot dog rather than buying a package of hot dogs and a package of buns that you prepare yourself (and have food for another meal) from the grocery store. When you're on a limited budget (like me) it's a long time between your next check from the disability people.
I will say that I love the holiday specials on T.V., the colorful decorations, the festive music and all of the stuff that goes with the holiday season. We're rapidly headed in the direction of the "ber" months and the holidays, I'm hoping to be able to reach out and touching and helping others. Right now I will just be happy losing the cast on my leg and getting to walk "normal" again.
I didn't realize that turkey wasn't healthy for you. I thought that as long as you didn't consume the skin and went easy on the dark meat it wasn't that bad.

@40yearoldlion A big part of my Christmas came today. I got a call from the apartment managers and one of them offered to come help me with cleaning the place on Wednesday. We have our annual inspection the beginning of next month and with my being on crutches it's going to be really hard to do the cleaning alone. Her helping is going to make things so much easier. Gifts don't have to be materialistic; they can be something as simple as assisting someone who is laid up and not able to maneuver to do a bunch of the work themselves.
If you go to Ebay and look up Beary Elite Bears, one of my bears is listed on the secondary market. It will give you a bit of an idea of what my work is like. It's an earlier bear, they've improved a LOT since I made that one, but it still gives you an idea. I love being able to design and make bears for donating to worthy causes. I've given to humane societies, handicapped children's schools, and so much more. It is Christmas every day when I can give to the causes. One of the humane societies received one of my bears and one of the abused cats adopted it. It made the difference between night and day with the cat. It would curl up and sleep in the bear's lap, snuggle with the bear, talk to the bear, and the cat came out of its shell thanks to the bear. I got a call from the society, and they asked if I could see my way clear to make them another bear for raffling. Of course, I said yes, and I ended up adopting the cat myself. I couldn't have asked for a sweeter cat, and of course she settled into my bear making fur and supplies. She used to scare my mom no end with her laying in the boxes of fur quietly. She would be sleeping there when my mom would walk by, then the cat would move and meow, and Mom would jump sky high and let out a little scream. I swear that cat would laugh.
Have a great evening. I am going to be posting an update on the condition of my ankle when I get home from the doctor's office tomorrow. I'm hoping to be healing well and will be sporting a walking cast instead of having this fiberglass one and the crutches. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

well thank you for acknowledging that I woke up some memories for you....but i am really touched by your statement of you doing that Santa Claus thing.
I guess that the essence of it all. Giving instead of receiving.
You know the old adage, " If giving is more our concern than receiving, Christmas is everyday!"

I love Christmas as well. It’s celebrated with family and friends in Serbia (each get their day lol) but usually just one gift per person is okay. Only children get more gifts as in candy and snacks. This will be my first Christmas in Zambia and I already started preparing lol .

Christmas for us is very different.
We have no family to be forced to hang out with.
No traffic, as we have no car.
It is better to have a few sweets than load up with too much.
I do love Christmas still.
